Whyte 901 - 2019 vs 2020

Hi, I have a dilemma between two models of Whyte 901, the models from 2019 vs 2020.

2019: https://whyte.bike/collections/trail-en ... oducts/901

2020: https://whyte.bike/collections/trail-en ... ts/new-901

They are pretty similar bikes. The main differences are: forks (2019: Rock Shox Sektor RL vs 2020: Rock Shox 35 Gold RL) and Sram NX in 2019 and new SX Eagle in 2020. The 2020 is a little heavier 0,3 kg.

I can buy a model 2019 for 90% of the price of the model 2020.
It seems to me that the differences in both models do not put one of them more clearly above the other. Due to the fact that 2019 is a bit cheaper (I like painting more in addition) I think that in this case it will be a better choice. If I'm wrong, and the equipment from 2020 is better, please let me know

They are both good bikes, tricky choice. But the answer is in the timing.

#If the 2020 model is available get it now. The 2019 has already lost money vs the 2020 due to year deflation. (Consider that when selling the bike - which will you get more for, a 2019 or a 2020?)
#If the 2020 is not available, get the 2019, it's a fine bike and you will be riding it for months before the 2020 comes out.
#If you can wait for the 2020 to come out, by then the 2019 will be even cheaper and your choice may shift.
#If you wait too long, your size/choice of 2019 bike may not be available and you will have been without a new bike for months.

But the key thing is to make a decision! If you genuinely cannot choose, assign a bike to head or tail, then toss the coin. Whatever the answer ask yourself "am I pleased?" If yes, your choice is clear, if not choose the other one! :)

The 2020 model has a few geometry tweaks as well - longer chain stays and wheelbase and a slightly shorter seat tube.

Thanks. What are the advantages of the longer chain? The bike is faster?

The bike is only faster if you pedal harder.

Longer chain stays mean the bike is more stable at speed. How fast you have to be going to actually notice I have no idea.

Would it be fair to comment that if you don't know the impact of a longer chainstay or wheelbase, that in reality you won't notice the difference it would make anyway without owning both of them?

Longer chain stays usually means easier to climb steep bits without looping out or losing steering control. But harder to lift the front wheel for any reason.
