Slight bulge in new tyre - thoughts on safety?

Bought some new Schwalbe Ones from BikeDiscount.de (as an aside, hella fast shipping, fair play).

One of the tyres seems to have a slight defect on the sidewall, meaning there's a slight bulge from about 80psi, perhaps half a centimetre. Doesn't affect the tread as far as I can tell.

I've emailed BikeDiscount to see what they think, but as a general view I thought I'd ask the BikeRadar hive mind. Would you ride these?

I'd stay off it. There are some marks on the sidewall which might also suggest that all is not well with the structure, as well as some visible fibres..

I wouldn't ride that. I've also no doubt that bikediscount.de will look after you.

As above, don't ride, remove it an check the tube and inside of the tyre, could be as innocent as a poor seating but it looks to be in correctly.

'Poor seating' or not - if the sidewall is not uniform shape (and this one clearly isn't) then it suggests a problem with the tyre structure..

Confirms my thoughts, thanks all. I'm sure they'll see me right. Not riding this weekend so no harm/no foul.

Checked out the seating and it's all perfect - also noticed another similar bulge further round the tyre with the same non-uniform sidewall so it seems likely to be a manufacturing defect.

looks like my stomach in lycra. I can confirm that is not a positive for cycling

Update from a customer service perspective - after initially suggesting that I return the tyre, they then forward to Schwalbe for inspection (3 week turnaround), and they then resolve, I reasoned with them that I'd rather they sent me the product I'd paid for! Shipped yesterday and likely here by the end of the week, so all's well. I'll return the ruined one and am coming out with three tyres for the price of two. All good.

Am I being unusually dim? How are you getting 3 tyres for the price of 2?

It was a set of two - one dead, two new ones on the way = 3

I probably described it badly above, to be fair.
