I'm looking for a new comuter - daily 40mile round trip not that i do it daily i might add.
Unfortunatly i jumped ahead and requested a £1000 voucher from work but i'm now struggling to find something i like in my Size (Small, XS 480-510mm Seat tube length) that meets my requirements.
Road bike under £1500 closer to 1k ideally
Disc Brakes - idealy hyrdo
Not too heavy
I was looking at Planet X but they nolonger accept the vouchers.

Happy to build a bike and will likely swap out parts to make it lighter
Looking at a Ribble
Merlin ROC Disc 105 Road Bike
Ribble R782 Disc

Anyone seen any bargains or any recomendations

Thanks in advance

Intent on Cycling Commuting on a budget, but keep on breaking/crashing/finding nice stuff to buy.

Triban RC520 would leave you with plenty of change for bits and bobs.
Another option would be a Dolan RDX, I've had a Dolan in the past and they're good. There's a great level of customisation available.

As you'll be getting a disc brake bike which will probably be alloy or steel it'll never be that light.
  • Sorry I can't get the seat tube size but how about an Orro Terra Gravel?

Actually, maybe the Ridgeback Ramble would be a better bet?

Never be tempted to race against a Barclays Cycle Hire bike. If you do, there are only two outcomes. Of these, by far the better is that you now have the scalp of a Boris Bike.

Not sure if you can wait but would be worth doing with the proposed increased limit - https://www.cyclescheme.co.uk/cycle-to-work-scheme-any-price

Very happy with my Dolan RDX, self built from frameset.

Been getting a lot of usage this week, it doesn't suffer much in the comparison to my carbon 'summer' bikes.

Thanks for highlighting this. I rang up but unfortunately my employer doesn't allow cancelations and a such I would not be able to increase the limit. That said I did learn that the expiry on the certificate is not valid and the certificate does not expire, just that your employer will start taking the money whether used or not.

Some very good ideas i had ot come across in my own searches. Thanks

I got a Vitus Sentier last year on cyclescheme from Wiggle. It's lovely.

I've knocked commuting on the head though...
