Andrey Amador (Movistar), Fausto Masnada (Androni Giocattoli), Damiano Caruso (Bahrain-Merida), Dario Cataldo, Pello Bilbao (both Astana), Tanel Kangert (EF Education First), Ilnur Zakarin (Katusha-Alpecin), Ama Ghebreigzabier (Dimension Data), Jai Hindley (Team Sunweb), Eddie Dunbar (Team Ineos), Eros Capecchi (Deceuninck-Quick Step), Mikel Nieve (Mitchelton-Scott).

    That's a heavyweight move

Gap 40 secs so big effort to not let it get away. Who is pulling behind?

Heard the bunch behind the break of 12 went down to only 24 for a while but has grown since, first to about 35, now up to 50 odd. Not heard who it contains or who has been left behind.
Meanwhile the break now has about 3 mins.

I wonder if any alliances are likely today. An alliance Astana-Bahrain (Lopez-Nibali) would be a possibility, but also Roglic could align with either, or both.

Depends if any/who of the contenders bridges to the lead group over the second climb?

Not sure what other choice he's got. Absolutely zero help from his team for the whole race so has to ride defensively.

Not going to be much of a peloton over the next climb

He's not even tried to mix it up. Even when he has to chase, he always tries to sit on others. Incredibly passive riding.

So? Dumoulin had no team mates last year yet hasn't been as poor as Roglic.

For a late inclusion and a GT debutant, Eddie Dunbar has had a very good Giro.

Dumoulin was the strongest in the race in 2017. Roglic clearly isn't.
