1x Apex with hydraulic brakes (160mm front and rear)

Thru Axle WTB Rims (i23) with WTB Cross Boss 35c tyres, Novatec hubs.

Vitus kit

Very nice setup on the flared bars. All works well. Swapped the tyres out for now to G-One for gravel and road riding.

Exceptional tyre clearance so reckon a 45c will go on there. May have a look at seeing what 650b would fit.

£835 with Wiggle discount. Which is insane given what it would cost to buy Apex 1 shifters and brakes

Nice looking bike and great value too by the looks of it. Closest comparable appears to be the Planet X Full Monty at £900 with 1 x Apex hydraulic.

Mounts on fork and inside rear stays. That Px is mechanical btw. Wheels not as good either.

I have found some comments in the internet saying that the bike is long and low, and I got the impression that the bike suits well for people with longer back and shorter legs. I'm interested in buying this bike for my dad who has pretty much the same measures as I do: height 177 cm and inseam 82 cm. Just makes me worried whether the geometry of the Vitus Energie Cyclo X is suitable for him. I'm considering Vitus Energie Cyclo X or Cannondale CAADX 105 in size 54. However, the Cannondale is more expensive and doesn't seem to have as nice parts or looks as the Vitus. Would be nice to hear your thoughts and insights on the geometry of Vitus.

Another concern I've had about Vitus is that the default gearing is 11-32, and therefore might not have enough range for my dad who is a beginner in cycling.

It does look good value, even if you have to swap the rear mech and cassette.

What is the ride quality like? Being Hydroformed 6061-T6 Alu I would expect it to be quite lively.

The ride is lively, more lively than the CAADX, in some ways it feels quite steel like. I'm running it with 38c tyres at the moment so any sting is taken out anyway. It's not harsh though.

In terms of long and low. I'm not sure, if anything it's quite high and short. The CAADX (54) felt longer and lower to me. I've not yet done anything with the spacers. Seat post is quite high. That said, reach on the CAADX is shorter than the Vitus but the Vitus has a much shorter stem. It would be a long bike with the same stem, the Vitus is longer in the TT.

It feels a little more agile than the CAADX, and one of the reasons might be the bars, they're really flared and shallow, so I spend a lot of time in the drops. The brakes are angled outwards, which may not be to everyone's taste. I like it more than the CAADX, especially in 'stock mode.'

I can't see any good reason to get the Rival version, which is an awful lot more.

In terms of cassette, it's surprisingly fine. I've not done serious off road yet, which is where it may need to become a 36 but I've been doing loads of green laning/gravel etc with the 11-32 with no issues at all.

Thank you a lot for the answer! How tall are you? And is your Vitus size 54 size? I was looking that the stack and top tube are 57 and 57 in Vitus (size 54) and 55.5 and 53.7 respectively in CAADX (size 54).

Testing 42c WTB Resolute today. Not put both on yet, they're for battle on the beach.

STILL clearance on there, I reckon 45c will fit. Should easily get 650b 47c in there.

Both on now. Really lovely ride, even with tubes. Will be converting to tubeless shortly.

It's fantastically versatile. Out of stock in many sizes now. The more expensive Rival isn't as good value.

Don't get the carbon one though, clearance is nowhere near as good.

I didn’t do Battle on the Beach due to my ongoing health issues but did recce the course. Even at 60psi the combination of the frame and 42c WTB resolute was superb. Floated over soft sand, sure footed on gravel and loads of grip on the loose stuff. Does need a bigger cassette though. I’ll go 11-40

Please, can you tell me if it would be posible to set the bike with a 46 tooth chainring? I'm afraid of the chainstays...
Could you attach a picture of the clearance both at the front and rear (chainstays) with the Resolute tyres?

We went for 40mm G ones in the end. They seem to suit the bike well. I reckon you could easily get 45mm up front and may be able to squeeze them into the back - certainly room for 43mm in there. Impressed with this bike so far - pretty rapid and really quite good off road (single track & gravel roads so far); not bad on tarmac either.

Also a bargain for 799 in the sale - especially as I got it on cyclesheme at that sale price with no additional payments, so I won't pay any tax on that 799 & its spread out over 12 months.

FYI - sizing - despite the long top tube on paper, it rides like a normal 54cm, partly due to the short stem. I'm between 5'8'' and 5'9'' with a 30'' inside leg and the medium (54) fits me well.
