This needs its own thread.

The following work is all done by Blazing Saddles on the Ardennes thread, not me

Looks like coverage starts on Eurosport 2 at 1pm UK time.

There's nothing earlier from anybody. Sporza starts at 1pm BST, too.
Rain and 6C, when coverage starts.
The rain should have stopped and temperature around 10C in Liege for the finish.

We'll have to tolerate the sight of valverde in leg warmers but not arm warmers then

    Lovely day.

115kms to go, so instead of live, we get more Watts.

Rob Hatch explained this the other day. The problem is UK Eurosport can't show the race until International Eurosport do. And International won't show it until the Snooker (which they are showing on the same channel) is finished. Watts isn't scheduled, it's just filler until they can show the race

Thanks for that. Was trying to post a 'why do Eurosport advertise a 1pm kick off, then we are still waiting 17 minutes later' but had forgotten my log in details. So you have saved me the bother

Sky to ride all guns blazing in their last outing as Sky?

    Valverde abandons

Quickstep drilling it, gap dropping like a stone (3'30" now), Peleton split, Valverde abandon.

    Weather is nasty, nasty stuff.

Looks horrible. Be some cold and very wet riders by the end.
Valverde gives up with 103 kms to go.

Coverage was late starting from the hosts, probably due to the slow race.

Ion Izaguirre screwed again, after chasing back with Wellens.

Not the fastest edition, but I guess they're a bit cautious on the descents.

GVA is desperate to get away. Think he just wants to get back for a shower as fast as possible.

Looks to me like he wants to ride on the front to warm up a bit. Been there, where sitting on just doesn't cut it!

The front group is this lot:

Philippe Gilbert and Enric Mas (Deceuninck-Quick Step), Simon Clarke, Lawson Craddock and Tanel Kangert (Astana), Benoît Cosnefroy (AG2R-La Mondiale), Vincenzo Nibali, Damiano Caruso and Antonio Nibali (Bahrain-Merida), Max Schachmann and Cesare Benedetti (Bora-Hansgrohe), Michael Albasini and Daryl Impey (Mitchelton-Scott), David De La Cruz (Team Sky), Omar Fraile and Gorka Izagirre (Astana), Winer Anacona and Carlos Verona (Movistar), Luis Angel Mate (Cofidis), Sergio Heano and Tadej Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates), Greg Van Avermaet and Alessandro De Marchi (CCC Team), Dmitrii Strakhov and Ilnur Zakarin (Katusha Alpecin), Laurens De Plus (Jumbo Visma), Toms Skujins and Nicola Conci (Trek-Segafredo) have caught Julien Bernard (Trek-Segafredo) with 70 km to go. The second bunch is trailing by 30".

To all those commenting on the weather, think of us who rode this in the same conditions plus wind and a bit of hail yesterday. Firmly ensconced in a Liege bar with French commentary on the TV and the finish line outside.

New group of ten have 35"

Tanel Kangert (EF Education First), Benoît Cosnefroy (AG2R-La Mondiale), Damiano Caruso (Bahrain-Merida), Michael Albasini (Mitchelton-Scott), David De La Cruz (Team Sky), Omar Fraile (Astana), Bjorg Lambrecht (Lotto Soudal), Winner Anacona and Carlos Verona (Movistar) and Alessandro De Marchi (CCC Team) are 30" ahead of the bunch at the summit of the Col du Rosier.

    No QS

    Well deserved!

De La Cruz mech and bike change, chasing back to the front group.
    41" for them to peloton.
