Width of aftermarket chains?

I am trying to replace my SRAM red chain (11 sp) with an aftermarket chain and its not going well due to noise / rubbing. There seems to be a very small difference (maybe 0.5mm in width). could this be the wrong speed altogether (eg 10 vs 11) how would I tell?

It's usually written on the box - or the chain

Check the side plates of the chain, it can be etched somewhere there.
