  • I would have thought Sagan finishing second in a race would have been a better indicator.

Judging from DD photos Cav looks in good shape. Think he isn't finished yet.

Of course he is, he hasn't won a race yet, not even a chipper.

As far as the early signs of the season goes, I'm going to make a wild prediction that Tom Boonen's lack of results in the Dubai tour mean he won't get any results in the spring classics. I'd put my house on it.

  • Is it just coincidence that the mention of Tom Boonen is immediately followed by a picture of white powder?

My man Sep wins a race! Takes stage 1 of Haut Var... first time he's crossed the line with his arms in the air since mid-2016.

    Dare one hope...

An early sign of the Classics season is Roger De Vlaeminck saying how much better the riders were in his day

Yeah, fairly consistently unpredictable. Should be a good one

Apparently he's switched coaches, after being with the same one for 12 years, on EF's request/demand.

its about this time the comparisons of relative toughness of Paris Nice / Tirreno Adriatico commence

It's a bit of a no contest this year, given that Tirreno doesn't have an obvious Queen stage.
Incredibly, the races highest point is half a fathom under 650 metres.
Also their stages are a bit shorter than usual, with one of the two "rampy" stages less than 180kms.

Expect lots of "bijtrainen" after stages for the MSR favourites in Italy then...

Porte has started his sickness early this year. No Paris-Nice.

Alaphillippe is the bookie's favourite for Strade Bianche (around 5/2), then Kwiatkowski (around 7/2)*, Stybar 9/2 and GVA around 7/1. But it's really varied depending on the betting site, and none of the odds are that short so it seems pretty wide open (Alaphillippe has consistently shortest odds).

*even though he's apparently not riding... A few places had Sagan as well who also isn't riding.

    E.g., William Hill has Alaphillippe 3/1, Stybar 9/2, GVA 5/1, Wellens 8/1, Lutsenko 10/1 and Benoot 16/1.

Not going to be wet this year though :(:(
