Good to see so diversity in those wildcards. Teams from all parts of France.

    :)
  • The organisers of the Tour de France have chosen the first teams for the 106th edition of the Tour de France (6–28 July).

In accordance with Union Cycliste Internationale rules, the eighteen UCI WorldTeams are invited:

    [...]

In addition to these eighteen teams, the organisers have awarded wildcards to the top two teams in the Europe Tour classification:

    WANTY - GROUPE GOBERT
    COFIDIS, SOLUTIONS CRÉDITS

The final two teams will be announced at a later time.

So, the Belgians break the monopoly, which means one of those Paris-Nice wildcards are going to end up disappointed.

Wanty are good value, they get in it, and their kit looks good :)

As I understand it Wanty and Cofidis are in due to being the top two pro conti teams, but there's still a choice to be made for two more places, between; Direct Energie, Arkéa-Samsic and Vital Concept. They might not decide until after Paris-Nice

If Wanty get in I guess wont be seeing either Greipel and Barguill or Calmejane and Terpstra. Some decent riders have stepped down a level.

No-one's going to miss Terpstra at the Tour. He's only ever been a domestique there (one top ten stage finish - 5th)

Definitely the one I’ll miss the least. I think Greipel has a stage on two in him and Barguill can be good value once he’s lost an hour or so.

I think Greipel's days have gone (but I've said that before). I think Cavendish and Kittel's may have too.
I can't see Barguil doing much. He's settled for an easy life and a pay cheque. Like a footballer who moves to the Chinese league. But he'll get lots of camera time as he gets dropped about the same time as van Avermaet, just like Cunego used to at the Giro.

The question is, are the better than the other two wildcards yet to be chosen? I think they are
  • The RCS have announced the wildcards for their premier races today.

    Androni Giocattoli-Sidermec (ITA)
    Bardiani-CSF (ITA)
    Israel Cycling Academy (ISR)

I find myself agreeing with Rich.

Glad about that, I don't think Greipel can really be classed as top tier anymore but it woul dbe a shame to see him miss out
