Live and Let Die - Guns n Roses. Got the grittiness of Axl Rose's vocals plus the superb shredding of Slash that give it the edge of the Wings original.

Agree the GnR version is excellent.

Green Manalishi - Judas Priest. A screaming Rob Halford and KK Downing on guitar gives this Fleetwood Mac track a metal edge.
Gives it a metal edge but is not a patch on the original. Halford can't compete with Green's tortured vocals. And to compare KK with Peter Green - getthefuckouttahere.
On the subject of PG, I find it a travesty that Kirk Hammett has landed up with Greeny's Les Paul. It's like Stephen Hawking owning George Best's boots.

I Love Rock n Roll - Joan Jett and the Blackhearts. I didn't even realise this was a cover (original by The Arrows). Classic track. Actually saw it performed live when she supported Queen at the MK Bowl.

    Didn't know the original either.

Corey Taylor's "from Slipknot" acoustic version of Chris Issak's Wicked Game, came across it on youtube a few months back,I liked the song but thought this is a fantastic cover

Good, and unexpected. Slipknot are way underrated, but sorry. Having seen the original live back in the day there is more conveyance of heart felt emotion. Great band live, and plugged in, but also unplugged.

The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.

Good shout - I've always enjoyed watching Warren play as he just makes it look so easy that I can forgive the odd bum note.

  • Agree with Hendrix “..Watchtower” and “hey Joe”, however I think both Stevie Ray Vaughan’s and the Corrs’ versions of Little Wing (a truely well written and excellent song to start with) take the original on further in two completely different directions.

Was pleasantly surprised when I watched the Corrs perform Little Wing on their Unplugged DVD.
I remember Donna Air(Head) asking them live on telly how they met. Priceless.
  • One of those I never realised it was a cover...You Were On My Mind...Crispian St Peters.

Originally a country song for a duo called Ian and Sylvia but had also been a pop hit in America for a group called We Five.

Story time: was once riding bikes from Calais up to Holland with Mrs BBGeek. I was towing the trailer. We went to Rotterdam for the TdF prologue, and later to Amsterdam for some RnR. You all know the story, or should by now.
Got to Gouda and camped. By the way, if you ever get the chance to go, go to Gouda. It’s lovely, and they have some really nice Indian restaurants (not Indonesian, different story).
So we camped, and being permanently hungry cyclists went to the hut on the recreation place. All these European places have them. The Football was on (World Cup/Euros, I don’t recall) and the clubhouse was doing beer only. In enormous quantities.
The most stunning woman on the planet asked (we did not need to ask) if we we were hungry, and found us Pizza. And said we might like to vacate due to an influx of Dutchmen turning up to watch the football. Anyway, I had a ball with hundreds of Dutch people from 5 years to 85 years, singing at the top of our voices “who the fuccck is Alice?”

One of the buskers in town was playing the smokie version a while ago while passers by were filling in the extras.

I remember being in a bar full of skiers in St. Anton giving it a good go towards the end of happy hour a few years ago.

Not sure if I’ve heard that one particularly, but she has a great voice and I do like Chicken Shack so I can imagine it’s very good.
Edit. Of course I know it, I have it on vinyl somewhere. It’s wonderful.
Currently listening to the Crazy Covers album the Mrs bought me for Christmas. Some very strange covers that just make me laugh, some really work. I’ll report back later.

I'll put up another cover of a Springsteen song.

Tougher Than The Rest, by Chris LeDoux. A Country artist performing a Springsteen song but with his voice he nails it. 'Twas Mrs O and my wedding first dance as well.
