It has to combine cinematography and score. Bonus points for graphics.

'Zombieland'. Just a great match up of slow mo' graphic horror, graphics plus an awesome Metallica track For Whom the Bell Tolls. It all works for me.
Always be yourself, unless you can be Aaron Rodgers....Then always be Aaron Rodgers.

    Saving Private Ryan. 20 minutes of pure unglamourised, unapologetic horror.

    On a lighter note. I think the first 20 minutes of Scream are a really clever contrast to what the movie becomes. Sets the scene as a genuine slasher horror movie which gradually unravels as it becomes more comedic.

    Beautiful Forest Scene fades in

    Forest bursts into flames

    Apocalypse Now has begun
  • Star Wars. John Williams opening fanfare, the crawl, music calms down over a slow pan to a quiet looking planet then AN ABSOLUTLEY MASSIVE SPACESHIP COMING OVER MY HEAD SHOOTING FRICKIN’ LASER BEAMS.

    Blew my mind when I was a kid, still does today.

    Clever on so many levels.

    @the OP.
    There's another zombie film, is it the one where they hole up in the mall? It starts with an aerial shot following a car, and there all this carnage cracking off, crashes happening etc.

    MF might just have nailed it with Top Gun. I actually spent a bit of time on the USS John F Kennedy during Op Granby / Desert Storm and was almost constantly in awe during the whole time on board.

    Apocalypse now is a good shout. I like Quadrophenia too - the quiet start with Jimmy walking away from the cliff edge silhouetted against the sea and sky then as The Who's The Real Me kicks in straight into him riding his Lambretta through London.

    From "This is the Universe. Big, isn't it?" to the moment David Niven bails out his burning plane without a parachute and Kim Hunter breaks down in tears. The opening of "A Matter of Life and Death" is a masterclass in portraying Brit understatement as humour and heroism. Powell and Pressburger's finest moment.

    Though I've not seen the film, that opening fanfare features the legendary Maurice Murphy. It was recorded in one take by the London Symphony Orchestra, after playing it just once through. And it was pretty much Murphy's first day in post, I think. After that, the composer (John Williams) insisted that Murphy would be the lead trumpet on all his film scores.

    The opening scenes of The Shining are stunning as the car drives through incredible landscape, that foreboding soundtrack lending an air of menace.
