Hi, Long time since i made a post. Had my eye on the X-Tools Prep stand from CRC https://goo.gl/jzfFMw .

Currently using an Aldi workshop stand that isn't really up to scratch, i do work on quite a few bikes and having to use two hands to close the jaws, the various tubes slipping etc is really starting to grate on me. Anyone got experience of this stand? at RRP its a competitor to the cheapest Park Tool offering and at £50 it seems to be a good deal but just wondering if anyone on here has used one at all.

    Judging from the photos, that is the exact same workstand that I have been using for about five years. I paid £80 for it and that was discounted! It is a great bit of kit. I use it several times a week.

    If I need to put some serious torque on the bike, like the 40Nm required for BB removal, then I put the bike upside down on the ground. I would do that for any bike stand I have seen so far, so it is not to be seen as a criticism.

    Otherwise it is very adjustable for height, angle, jaw width etc. One handed operation for jaw open/close. Two hands for height adjust. I wash the bike on it, so it is rust resistant as well but you need to grease the steel screws to stop rust. I just wipe it down afterwards to remove most of the water and then leave it until next time.

    If it finally fails, then I would buy another one. :)

    As above, I have had one of those stands for a few years.
    Cannot remember what I paid for it or even where I purchased it, but would definitely buy again if needed.

    Just bought one for myself and used it today for the first time, very happy with it, seems very solid for £50

    I’ve been thinking of changing to one of these would work better for me as the Aldi stand is awkward and gets in the way as I currently do my bikes in my dining room and a better stand would fit flush with wall giving me more room.

    Are park tool workstands worth spending the extra on?

    I do have a Park Tool stand, which I hasten to add was bought for me as a gift, I wouldn't have spent that amount on myself.
    Comparing with the picture of the X-Tools stand, the most useful feature that the Park stand has in its favour is the way the clamp operates with a lever that cams and tightens by winding in one operation, not requiring you to set the jaw spacing by trial and error.
