shoe sizing

Hi, was trying on a pair of shoes yesterday to go clipless. The 42 size was neat, toes right up to front of shoes, but the 43 seemed bit big at front with fair bit of toe room. Is it better to go for neat fit or have that extra wee bit of room? I tried them on with the type of socks that would be wearing while cycling to make sure size was right

I would get shoes that leave a little room for when your feet are warm/hot.

Impossible for anyone to advise you on shoe purchases. Just use whatever criteria you presumably use when you purchase non-cycling shoes...

All good advice but here is a simple rationale.
You an tighten loose shoes, tight shoes will always be tight.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.

Way I was taught with cycling shoes, you want a little expansion room as Diamonddog advised. another tip, curl your toes a bit when you tighten your shoes, helps prevent over tightening.
  • once on, do you want to have the shoes tight as comfortable using boa/Velcro straps?

Try different makes as they tend to fit differently.
