Hi all ,

i Have recently just purchased my new bike and have tried to mount a bottle cage only to realise that the bolts are completely circular and non of my tools can turn it. How do you get rid of these " rivets" to put on a bottle cage. thanks

Allen key in the centre to undo ?

Other than that are they some plastic plugs in place of bolts ?

i have tried to undo with allen keys but there is no edges for the allen key to hook into and turn the actual bolt/rivet.

and they are metal no plugs

If there's no means of removing them - they're not bolts. They must be something else. A pic would help...

I wasn't being sarcastic because I've never seen bolts like this before. Mole grips on them would work but that's an inelegant solution.

What frame is it ? A well known make ?

Maybe the bolt isn't supplied and you are trying to remove the 'nut' fixed into the frame? Is the round hole in the centre threaded?

I had a giant TCR. As far as I can recall completely normal bolts.

There is your answer - take it back to the shop where you bought it and get them to remove the bolts for you. They should do it FOC

    Sometimes. Maybe. Possibly.

Do post a photo, I'm really curious.

I have seen some new bike frames with plastic plugs in the rivnut bottle mounts; they just prise out to reveal the threaded holes.
  • I had a TCR, don't remember having anything like that on mine

    any pictures?

totes alts you could cut a line in them with an angle grinder or similar and use a screwdriver to undo them before hitting them with a hammer, setting them on fire then throwing them into next door's garden and fitting some nicely copperslipped new bolts.

Recognition at last Matthew, well done!, a justified honour :D

He has probably been using the wrong sized Allen key and after reading these comments been too embarrassed to post again ;-)
