Yes, it's men only again.

Probably an easier pick for this one.

(Wallays at the Vuelta and Valverde's Worlds just missed the cut)

Sub-vote for Kate Courtney's ride at the XCO World Champs...

With all due respect to the others, there can only be one winner here. Froome's ride was the ride of the last 10 years for me.
It's only a bit of sport, Mun. Relax and enjoy the racing.

S19 Froome ride was just incredible and something I've not seen before in a grand tour. Think it was Sagan few years ago in Tour of Flanders who went with about 60 km?, but 80 km mountain stage was awesome!

That was Gilbert in Flanders not Sagan.

Pinot's Lombardy? after ending up pretty ill and missing out on the Giro podium his comeback and climax of the season was pretty impressive, topped off with taking on Nibali at his own game and coming out the winner.

83% of votes so far for Froome yet at the time folks beyed how Froome must have been pumped up on jungle juice.
'Performance analysis and Froome not being clean was a media driven story. I haven’t heard one guy in the peloton say a negative thing about Froome, and I haven’t heard a single person in the peloton suggest Froome isn’t clean.' TSP
  • Small, vocal minority. Oft the case that it makes you think one thing when it's just one person saying it but more often.

Applies to many walks of life.
  • Dumoulin... just because.

Anyone who didn’t vote for Froome’s Giro smash doesn’t get cycling and should quit watching cycling entirely.

Valverde. He won the worlds at almost ten times quadrupler of age, he's like fantastical and must be one of the greatest dayers and almost GCers of his generation (which is pretty big).

I thought this thread was for "Ride of the year" not "Rider of the year".

Sorry about that Rick. It was the bare forearms and mittless hands at 4 degrees in the rain and mud that did it for me...

Should perhaps be a "What was the second best ride of the year" question...

Obviously, GT GC wins and podiums are what defines the pecking order of best GT riders of their generation; but I think now to reach ‘Legendary’ status a rider has to mug the race like Contador did at Vuelta 2012 and Froome in the Giro this year.

Being able to win when you have not been the strongest rider over 3 weeks is absolutely reserved for the legendary.

For the most part of that Giro Froome looked average, but he stuck the knife in in dramatic fashion when he needed to. I had fully written him off as he looked sh!te for all bar one day prior to stage 19.
    Same with Contador.

For me there's nothing better in sport, and this is true for all sports, than a champion who looks beaten and then produces something special to claim victory.

the Vuelta in 2012 was absolutely epic, though the stage Contador got away from Rodriguez had a television blackout when he went away. it was one of 2 grand tours Rodriguez shoulda coulda won. the other being the giro that year.

This would get my 2nd place vote.

    Agree 100%

I'd be willing to concede second best ride of the year to Benoot at Strade Bianche.

completely correct and both excellently and succinctly put.

Clearly doping has been and continues to be part of the sport, but if we drag it into every topic we might as well give up now. Lets just accept that every rider and every result could be drug fueled, we just don't know. Singling out specific results just highlights your personal likes and dislikes.

    “Knows what he’s talking about.”

Except he didn’t did he? Until the interviewer told him he’d had no idea what Froome had done let alone how it had played out.
