Mudguards without eyelets

Winter is here, I can hear the rain bouncing on the flat roof of my kitchen.

Unusually for me I find myself in the position where I don't have a bike with mudguard eyelets and if I buy a new frame I'll be seeing a lot less of my kids. So I need a solution.

I've tried Raceblades before and they damaged the paintwork on a steel frame. I've also tried Crud Roadracers before and found them a bit 'meh', but that was version 1, and I see they are now on to version 3. Have they improved?

Finally, I've been looking at adapters to put round the QR to allow proper guards to be used, but I've not been able to find a solution for securing the rear guard at the seatpost, where you would normally use a bolt. Does such a thing exist, or do people who use these adapters just let the guard flail around down there?

Do you mean between the chainstays at the bottom? Is there a bridge linking them? If so use a P clip, we’ve got them at work so I can grab one for you. Just let me know the diameter of the chainstay bridge.

No bridge between the stays on this bike. On previous frames there has been a hole in the back of the seat tube to bolt the guard to. Just like a bottle cage hole.

Edit: found a solution.

Are there holes in the back of stays to fit a bridge?

Hurrumph.

No holes to fit a bridge and the seat tube flattens from about half way down the bottle cage so that clamp won't work either.

What I appear to need is a couple of large p-clips and then a tube to go between them that has a bolt hole half way along.

I've been pretty pleasantly surprised with my Crud Roadracer Mk3s. Using them with a Hoy Alto Irpavi which has no rear bridge or other mudguard fittings.

They went on easily, and they only rattle when you hit bumps, so same as every other mudguard to be honest.

What I really like is how easy they come off - so long as you don't mind leaving the fairly discrete velcro (not actually velcro but works similarly) pads on the inside of your fork and seat stays you can take them off in seconds, and put them back on in a couple of minutes.

I used roadracer mk2s on an earlier bike, had to adjust them semi regularly and there wasn't really any question of temporarily removing them on dry days.

First ride with Crud Roadracer Mk3s earlier, not entire convinced.

If you have room for them, standard SKS Beavertails, using zip-ties to secure to chain stays?
