Ok I'm sick of pulling my seat up and down. Can someone recommend a budget dropper post?

How easy will it be to fit to my 2x10 Canyon Yellowstone?

Thanks,

Mick

Are you looking for something internally routed or externally?

    Do you have internal routing?

What size is the seat tube?

    Google "Brand X dropper post"

Around £105 and lots of excellent reviews. :)

The "RSP Plummet Remote Stealth Dropper Seat Post" is even cheaper at £95, but I have neither looked for nor seen any reviews.

I have no idea if I have internal routing or what size the seat post is.

How can I check and how can I measure?

Pull the seatpost out and see what it says.

If you have internal routing it will have a hole somewhere to let the cable out near the BB.

Can't see a hole. Nothing written on seatpost but it looks to be approx 30mm and same as two Giant ones I have lying around.

It should be stamped near the bottom of the seat post.

‘Approx 30mm’ isn’t much help. Most MTB seat posts are 30.9 or 31.6mm.

I doubt an XC bike from 2013 will have internal dropper post routing.

  • I took a punt and went for an RSP dropper. I have a Scott Scale which has internal routing, but currently still running a 2x so I had to internally route the cabling my self. So far the seat has been smooth and reliable, there is a tiny amount of forward/rearward movement in the post which has been covered in other forums, but nothing that is noticeable whilst riding. I spent the day at Chicksands yesterday and it performed better than I could have hoped for, for a dropper of this price bracket.

I recommend a Brand-X Ascend II from CRC if you don't have internal dropper cable routing.
I have been running an internally-routed one on my hard tail for the last 9 months with no problems at all. It comes with a 2-year warranty so plenty of time to exchange it if it does go faulty.

I'm a bit worried it will be too long, my current seat post was, so I chopped it to 350mm.

This is when I use the seat in its lowest position, then I put it up approx 60mm for flat or climbing.

Or does the length mean when extended?

This will be useful, it is a chart of all the dimensions of various makes and sizes of dropper. If it opens up in French, watch out for the "translate this page" option from Google.
