Electric bikes/cargo bikes

Quite fancy the look of theese can't really justify atm but would just like one to play around on etc just like the geekyness novelty of the tech etc.

Probably electric bikes will overtake sales of normal bikes?

Local trail centre is say 30% e-mtb reckon it will go up too majority e-mtb in next few yrs.

    Find your local cycling campaign group; In Southampton, at least , they actually have "try out a cargo bike's day occasionally.
    Also worth looking at urban arrows, which provide the pedalmeapp e bike taxis in London.
    Intent on Cycling Commuting on a budget, but keep on breaking/crashing/finding nice stuff to buy.
    Bike 1 (Broken) - Bike 2(Borked) - Bike 3(broken spokes) - Bike 4( Needs Work) - Bike 5 (in bits) - Bike 6* ...

    My Mum has a E-bike which is a hoot, do see some cargo bikes about, but their size puts me off. I commute etc using various shared paths which tend to have anti motorbike access which is a complete pain with just an old MTB with panniers, let alone a cargo bike, as above would love a go though at some point.

    Not a cargo bike as such, but we hired a Raleigh Motus e-bike at Longleat Center Parcs this year, mainly for the benefit of my better half but I also wanted to see what they like. It weighed 20-odd Kg, significantly more than my Voodoo in its default form, but my god it could shift with the assistance turned on! :shock:

    The waiver I had to sign for the hire was a bit dubious IMO, including I was responsible for any damage (how can any company hiring out bikes not have insurance for the users and include that in the hire price?), but the most gutting thing was that you are forbidden from taking them off the campus... Which given the huge battery life and the wonderful rolling hills around there, including the Mendip hills being ~25 miles away, was a huge disappointment. I was hoping to at least take my better half around the more numerous local cat3/4hills to the west and south of the campus without killing her, including Gare Hill.

    Despite only having a few rides around the rolling terrain campus, It certainly opened my eyes to e-bikes for when the body is less willing. However, given their price to buy as a complete bike as well as buy replacements, the big concern is the life of the batteries and the motor.

    Would the battery have gotten you 25miles each way plus the Mendips?

    So in theory, you could do a decent number of the big Mendip hills, for example...
    Head to Wells via Horningsham
    Climb Eborr Gorge
    Descend into Rodney Stoke
    Climb Draycott Steep
    Descend Cheddar Gorge
    Head to Churchill and then climb Burrington Coombe
    Descend Old Bristol Rd before heading back to CP via Longleat Estate

    ~80 miles, turn off motor on the descents and use lowest assist uphill... You should just about make it! :lol:

    Yes !

    I tested it last year. Lots of fun but I just need to win the lottery to be able to justify it. Or get a job that would warrant using the bike.
