kona stinky 2007 brakes upgrade info

hey folks, been wanting to post this for a while now, i have a kona stinky 2007 15.5 inch frame, i upgraded the pedals to boardmans and the grips to lizardskins northshore, been in love with this bike since the day i got it, the only prob is the hayes nine rear brake!! it wasnt working because of seized pistons inside caliper, halfords couldnt fix but still charged 20 quid, it so i ended up doing the caliper piston replacement and bleed myself, so far i would say my rear brakes working about 75 percent.. still quite annoying thou and corrosion aint kind on the eye either, inside the main brake reservoir i found out the lung's little nipple is damaged and has tiny leak so new lung/reservoir cap required !! unfortunately they seem to be very hard to get, im down to two options and could really do with some advice as i dont know much about bikes,

do i order 2nd hand parts of ebay, replace and hope for the best???
or which i would love to try is buy brand spanking new shiny set and put em on myself ???

i would most greatly appreciate any suggestions on new (better) compatible brakes or info on which kind of adaptor i would require to as this bit has me slightly worried about getting wrong parts

    Depends on your budget really. I would change both ends as Hayes Nine are pretty rubbish compared to current brakes. Or you'll end up with much better braking at the back, which is not really where you need it.

    I'm a Shimano fan so would go for Deore or SLX.

    Adaptor depends on your bike/forks. Assuming rear is IS, you need IS to post mount in whatever size rotor you want.

    Front depends on what mounts are on the forks. So either IS or post mounts to post in whatever size rotor you want.

    You'll also need tools to cut the hoses to size, and most likely a decent bleed kit. Can recommend Epic Bleed kits.

    Shimano work with mineral oil, not DOT fluid so don't mix bits up.

    Someone will come along shortly and recommend Sram, I'm sure.

    Front won't be a issue and really depends on your budget.

    Hayes made a unique calliper that sat inside the rear triangle, Gary fisher/trek and klein used them, if you bike has this type you are pretty much stumped (there is a workaround)..
    .
    If rear is IS, could be post but that seems a bit early, you may be OK, can post photo of it?

    Pretty sure rear is just IS, I have a Kona Four from around that time.

    As cooldad suggests either Deore or SLX,the Hayes Nine was an OK brake at the time decent bite and feel and quite reliable ,they had a problem of the lever adjusters winding themselves in,rode some in the alps on a 05' Stinky,had to wind them out every morning,my rear was defo an IS mount think the Marzocchi forks around that time were all IS as well

    sorry for the late reply folks, up all night pupping the dog... had a look at both types and really like the look of the Shimano SLX BR-M7000.

    Any post mount calliper is a straight forward replacement..

    If the brake rotors are worn, it'll make sense to replace them. Used rotors may take a bit of time for the new pads to bed in but should not be an issue.

    Shimano brakes should go straight on these mounts,they are IS mount on the frame and fork,shimano mounts are only £8/9 a go,personally I would but some shimano RT76 rotors to go with them
