I rarely can see or hear traffic when I have to breathe as hard as I do when heading up that way.

A689 from Stanhope to Killhope cross is 14 miles of nearly all uphill from 600 to 2000 feet ?
  • What about the B797 Mennock Pass to Wanlockhead, then turn right up the [private] road to the air traffic control radar? About ten miles, taking you from approx 100maod to 750maod.

Llandagog to top of the Black Mountain is about 8.4 miles, it's flattish at 1-2% for half of that, and drops a couple of metres at one point, but riding along it you notice you're climbing.
  • Hambledon (from near Hambledon/Fareham Rds junction) to Butser Hill summit via Hogs Lodge lane is ~7.8 miles, with a few short descents on the way, ~940 feet gain with ~621 feet altitude difference.

But we still have not had the "rules" clarified for this search, the results will be very different if a distance measure stops when a road stops ascending in any shape or form.

as a segway really one of the things which possibly explains some of why you end up with x amount of segments for a hill, is in uk at least how fluid the start/finish is, one of the hills local to my folks is a steep wee thing, I have always counted it where the road folks and you have to commit, and when you crest the top, but others including Simon Warren of 100 greatest climbs have added much longer segments as the land climbs before and after that point but relatively mild grades, equally other have put in much shorter segments since there is a old railway that passes halfway up.

  • Kirk stone Pass from Bowness is a little devil. 12.5km and 500m of climbing, usually in sleet, fog and wind.
