Martin Toft Madsen is attempting an hour record later today.

I'm not that optimistic for him, given that his two earlier attempts have fallen short by a couple of kms each.

This time he's doing it in Mexico though, and he says he's "done the calculations".

Close but missed it, 53.63, solid effort, second fastest ever.

Closer than I thought he'd get to be fair.

Does Wiggins have to worry about Dumoulin or Roglic or other current TT specialist having a crack sooner or later?
  • For a semi-pro, some effort! Still 400m more than Dowsett?

Wiggins wasn't full out and could have gone a bit further IMHO, you only need look at him getting off the bike, compare that to Boardman who had absolutely emptied the tank and could barely get off the bike without collapsing, Wiggins was well in control and had a bit left.
That's not to denigrate his effort I just personally think it wasn't as far as he could have gone.
I expect it will get beaten not too far in the future, wonder if Tony Martin would be interested seeing as he's at that stage in his career

Conditions were sub optimal for Wiggins too and arguably he was past his peak. In his favour though he has huge track experience which counts for something - still agree the record is beatable if a specialist takes it seriously.

The record is there for the taking. Madsen got pretty close, 2nd fastest ever is going some considering there are a few others that have had a crack since Wiggins set it.

As ever Xavier has the breakdown, he cracked about halfway in - though did the last 50 at his sea level DK record speed.
