We are taking our camper van over land to a wedding in Northern Sweden in July, generally driving up the Baltic coast route with excursions on the way. We are planning to take our road bikes for a combination of gentle tourist excursions and also harder training rides on the way. Can anyone offer any advice, or links to advice on suitable routes, cycling maps, condition of roads away from the high ways, whether mountain bikes may be more appropriate than road bikes etc?

Many thanks

Having spent a lot of time in Finnish Lapland and also Sweden, i'd say road bikes will be ideal. Once you get North of Stockholm the smaller roads are of good quality and quiet. Obviously the main road North following the coast from Stockholm up towards Sundsvall and Skelleftea is busy with lorries etc.

Couple of years ago we too had a plan in place to drive our motorhome to a wedding in Kemi, but ended up flying. Great countries.
