Green light for a new road bike

Curretly riding a cube agree gtc from 2012 - certainly served well.

Looking for something for longish more leisurely based rides (as the wife has just got a bike). Was naturally thinking more endurance / sportive type. My budget is certainly no more than £1500

Ideally I'd like something with 105 (or better), not fussed about discs at all. Not overly fused whether carbon or aluminium - assuming weight difference isn't that vast.

I'm liking the following....

Trek Domane
Trek Emonda alr5 (I know it's more race based than Domane
Did look at/try a cube attain (53) but didn't really like it

I keep looking at the look 765 on Merlin (no pun intended)

Anything glaringly obvious I've missed? I'm limited locally to specialized, giant (tried the racier tcr2), focus, cube, trek. A bit further for Scott and cannondale

Cheers

  • Any reason why you haven't considered Canyon?

Rumour is the Giant Defy will be an all new frame for 2019. Worth a look. Details should come out soon.

In all honesty I'd completely over looked canyon

Here is my slightly shorter list....

Giant Tcr 2 - tried a few weeks back and was impressive
Trek emonda alr5 - not ridden yet but think local shop has one
    Cube attain gtc pro

I had discounted the cube but had another ride on it and it felt much better than previous - I was a little rushed before (wife and kids) so had a bit longer this time around

Only comment I'd add are given time of year, if you hang on a month or two you might start to see some decent savings on 2018 models as 2019 models start coming into the shops.
