Not whether you like him, not whether you agree with him, purely a poll on how intelligent or thick you subjectively feel he is

    Why 'subjectively feel'? It's tautologous.

And how can you agree with someone who lies continuously and is so inconsistent?

    The poll is nonsensical.

Trump is a very successful predatory parasite. He is intelligent enough for that purpose.

I think he’s probably intelligent enough but what he does have is animal cunning!!

The poll isn't nonsensical. It's simply what it is, a casual poll on how people perceive how intelligent the guy is.

As for "And how can you agree with someone who lies continuously and is so inconsistent?", well, people do.

Position does not answer the question.

I think most people on the planet are aware he is US president, yes, and they are aware that he became so because people voted for him. That's not a reflection of his intelligence in any way of course.

It's difficult to tell what you are trying to say or imply.

It would be good to see the poll pad out if people keep their opinion of him from swaying their selection. For example, i don't like Theresa May, but I have no doubt in my mind that she is an intelligent woman.

    +1

Donald Trump though, I don't like him and I think he's as thick as sh1t.

I and I and the MFs don’t like Trump and think he is a dotard.

Pretty smart I’d say. I think you have to be in the US due to the nature of their system. Just because he says and does dumb things doesn’t mean he’s not fairly smart. We’ve all met clever people who couldn’t find their arse with both hands.
I’ve met a few U.K. politicians and they are uniformly thick as mince. To get on in politics here you just have to survive. And have ambition, and the ability to be a twunt, and lots of luck. Job done.

Yep on that chart average intelligence would be 5 and Coopster or Manc33 are in the top half

I reckon he thinks he's clever, is arrogant and as someone else has said he is cunning but people like that often slip up eventually.

That said, part of me thinks he might genuinely be quite clever and he knows exactly what he's doing - playing to the lowest common denominator of the US public and doing things along the way he knows could get him in trouble on the basis that it will cause uproar among his core voters if anyone goes after him.

In which case would you think his inarticulacy is an act? That his vocabulary is better than a 12 year old's but he doesn't let on on purpose? That his inability to form coherent arguments and statements instead having to use only the shallowest of soundbites is not an inability, it's that he just wants to come across like that because he has decided that it works to his advantage to appear simple?

If all the above are true it would be amazing, but surely he'd slip up sometimes and sound thoughtful, considered and bright, but he doesn't seem to. He'd have to be extremely good at pulling the wool over people's eyes whilst not minding often appearing stupid even though the idea of him being comfortable with that seems at odds with his boastful tendencies and big ego. It just doesn't seem that feasible that he intentionally acts dumb when he isn't.

Trump knows how to use people. His mentor in earlier life was Roy Cohn:
Trump was 34 and using the connections of his father, Brooklyn and Queens real-estate developer Fred Trump, as he navigated the rough-and-tumble world of political bosses. He had recently opened the Grand Hyatt Hotel, bringing life back to a dreary area near Grand Central Terminal during a period when the city had yet to fully recover from near bankruptcy.

The tabloids couldn’t get enough of the Trumps’ theatrics. And as Donald Trump’s Hyatt rose, so too did the hidden hand of his attorney Roy Cohn, always there to help with the shady tax abatements, the zoning variances, the sweetheart deals, and the threats to those who might stand in the project’s way.

“You knew when you were in Cohn’s presence you were in the presence of pure evil,” said lawyer Victor A. Kovner, who had known him for years. Cohn’s power derived largely from his ability to scare potential adversaries with hollow threats and spurious lawsuits. And the fee he demanded for his services? Ironclad loyalty.

For author Sam Roberts, the essence of Cohn’s influence on Trump was the triad: “Roy was a master of situational immorality . . . . He worked with a three-dimensional strategy, which was: 1. Never settle, never surrender. 2. Counter-attack, counter-sue immediately. 3. No matter what happens, no matter how deeply into the muck you get, claim victory and never admit defeat.” As columnist Liz Smith once observed, “Donald lost his moral compass when he made an alliance with Roy Cohn.”

He can't stop tearing up every piece of paper he's finished with, even though it means someone else has to tape it back together.

The guy is shrewd and planning. These are facets of intelligence. But if you draw parallels to the new GCSE grades where 9's are to distinguish the absolute cream of the normal distribution. 8's are high fliers and 7's the equivalent of an old 'A' grade. I'd put him at around a 5-6.
Dislikeable he may be but he's not an idiot or average. Average would be around a 3-4 and typically not the sort of person who can manipulate the environment to their own benefit. (Diminishing returns so a 5 isn't average.)
Neither is he anywhere near as intelligent as he likes to think he is. He takes very simplistic ideas and forcibly makes them happen.
Bizarrely, his tendency to simplify issues is actually a good skill if it is both countered and modified by a more reasoned and nuanced approach to build consensus. As we all know though, he doesn't do consensus.

If someone told me he had IQ in the 90s I would not remotely be surprised.

If someone told me his IQ was in the 120s, I really would be.

Indeed. His intelligence is not the issue. It's all the other stuff.

At the risk of sounding like the fishy one or the tango one (is there really any other cr@p orange drink available?) is 120 really that high an IQ number?

He struggles to understand basic concepts. He struggles with reading. He thinks everything is going to be easy. He's ended up as President by mistake.

Rumour has it that his IQ is 156, according to him. Not that he has actually been tested, he says that’s what it is because he is so smart. :?

What if he got it tested and he was intelligent? What is worse? A POTUS who does stupid things because he really is stupid or a POTUS who does stupid things even though he's super intelligent and knows better? Is there any difference? Other than the hope a hyper intelligent Trump might have a long game that ends up working that we can't think about because we're not as intelligent that is.

Honestly he does too much stupid stuff to be above average.

There’s a fundamental lack of comprehension. I’m not just talking things like politics but also things like “you can’t rip up every piece of paper you ever read as President” and “no you cant watch porn in the whitehouse”.

He can’t even string 3 proper sentences together.
