Road wheelset for £400

What would be a good set of wheels for around £400, they would want to be 17c and 10/11 Shimano hub. Clincher tyres and rim brakes. To be used in year round cycling, 7000 kms per year on chipped roads. To date the Mavic Ksyrium elite have been bomb proof and Fulcrum 5 lg and quattro's have been prone to braking spokes and bearing failures, due to water ingress from wet roads.

Is this the general opinion.?
My Mavics lasted years until the rims got too worn, never any problems with bearings despite my neglect. I’ve had 2 sets of fulcrums and I’ve had to replace bearings on both long befor3 rim wear.0 -

I haven't had any trouble with my Fulcrum 3's or zeros.
Nor have several of my riding friends with Fulcrums and campags.0 -

If I was spending £400 on a rim braked wheelset I'd go handbuilts, and because he's just a bike ride away I'd likely go to Malcolm at Cycleclinic and let him tell me what I need.

Do Mavic still make the Classic Elite?

I’ve had about 4 years out of a set of Fulcrum 3’s with only a freehub bearing replacement (£15). They’ve been fantastic but don’t like the idea of throwing hubs away now rims are dead.
Rims are now too worn so I’m building a set of Ultegra 6800 hubs, d-light spokes and archetype hard anodised rims for £230, I reckon if you bought parts you could have them built and still be sub £300.0 -

I was going to suggest these too. I moved to them from Mavic Ksyrium Elites and they're great. I'm now saving for a similar disc pair to go on my other bike.0
