Carbon fork damage?

Hi all

I noticed what looks like flaked off paint on the top of my fork when I took the wheel off. It looks like powdery foam. Instinct tells me this is not good. Any tips will be gratefully received.

I would put a pic up but can't work out how to.

    Instinct tells me it's the paint falling off the metal steerer part of the fork and it's nothing to worry about.

    'powdery foam' sounds like corrosion of aluminium alloy

    as above, maybe it's a carbon fork with alloy steerer

    may be harmless, but if the corrosion is at the cf/al interface it could be a problem: the al corrosion product takes up more space than the metal, over time this could weaken/destroy the bond

    That doesn't look like a carbon fork to me.

    From the looks of that bubbling paint I would remove it down to the base and repaint in the damaged area. I have to say I can't tell from the photo if that's CF or an Alu crown. Alu will corrode much faster if it has pockets of moisture trapped under the paint and the paint will likely just keep flaking off further down the fork if left as is.

    Thanks for all replies. I brought it from new in 2013 and recall it being describes as with carbon forks but research indicates carbon blades. I'll get it sorted.
