Bike purchase - clueless! Hybrid or ‘classsic’?

I am trying to get back into some cycling now my kids are slightly older and want to go for bike rides and I can no longer keep up by running beside them.
They generally will cycle on paths / round the local common etc, so not particularly hardcore off road cycling!
I love the look of the uprights classic cycle, but am wondering whether a more normal hybrid would be more functional for chasing around after the kids!
Only really want to spend about £300 so be great to get some thoughts / recommendations as haven’t bought a bike for years!!

Its going to be heavy compared to a road bike but unless you're racking up the miles I think the hybrid will be just what you need.0 -

Also check out the Evans pinnacle range. My wife has a neon 2 and it's a great bike for the price. Something like this is in your price range:

Hi, I have one of these for commuting. It has a good spec for the money and I happily commute 13 miles each way on it.
Comfortable over tracks and not too heavy on the roads.0 -

I agree with this recommendation. Go for something with big tyres, V-brakes or disc brakes and mudguard and rack mounts.0
