Mudguards for an older steel frame

My steel trainer frame (from the 90's) needs some new mudguards (well a front one anyway). The fitting that goes over the front brake spindle on the new SKS mudguards I bought (and the others on the market from what I can see) seems to be much longer than the one I need to replace, which means it will not fit as the headset (an old campag one) sticks out a bit. Do I just need to cut that fitting down/off and bodge with a cable tie or is there a more elegant solution/set of mudguards available?

Thanks

B

  • Personally I've cut them down to miss the headset, and sometimes elongated the slot downwards to get more tyre clearance when necessary. Never had any problems afterwards.

Thanks Paul, guess that's what I'll do. Just wondered if there was smthing more elegant out there.
