Dropper post positioning

Hi all, Just bought a new full-sus (Giant Anthem 2) with a dropper post. Where should the post be positioned?
1) Such that full extension is correct height for road riding
2) Such that full compression is correct height for technical riding
3) Midway between

(1) seems to be most convenient as you don't have to fuss around getting the saddle at correct height when you hit the fast flat, but would mean that you are riding with maximum narrow section exposed.

Opinions please.
Cheers,
Phil, in Inverurie

Option 1 and then drop it for the technical downwards stuff.
When you are going down lumpy, bumpy stuff you want the saddle out of the way and shouldn't be sitting on it.

It should be set so that when you press the button/lever that the seat returns to the correct height for normal riding.

Normal riding and climbing, fully up.
Technical, drop it an inch or so to allow me to move bike around a bit more, especially if it’s a fast trail, just allows me to bend my legs a bit more.
Descents just drop it right down so it’s doesn’t get in the way.
