After a new pair of SPD shoes, either road or MTB, up to a max price of £90, what you got for me?

So far i'm between Scott MTB Elite Boa (£90), Scott MTB Comp Boa (£76) and Scott Comp Lace MTB (£86).

For some reason, Scott seem to be meeting my needs the most! Ive had 2 pairs of Diadora and liked them very much, but cant find anything this time around. Had a pair of NW and they never felt comfortable so wouldn't choose them again.

You've already said that comfort is a priority so maybe try them on for fit ? Crazy I know.

I use Shimano XC7 on the road.
They are available in half sizes.
  • Try some on and buy the ones that fit.

What size are you after. I have a pair Of size 41 Lake MX175 boa shoes I have only used a couple of times. I prefer the ratchet fittings on my older giro’s. £60 posted.
  • Shimano RT82 they are comfy, you can walk in them and as they have a smooth sole, they won't rip up overshoes.

I also use Shimano RT82s and would recommend them - even more so as they can be had for just over half the budget. I also use (and again like very much) Giro Republics (in reflective grey) which IMHO look a lot cooler than most SPD shoes but they are over budget. As I say, they look very nice but the uppers are not as rugged as some. On the plus side, the ‘walking pads’ on the soles work very well and are replaceable. For me they size similar to Shimano - one up on normal

  • What size are you?

I've found GearPursuit super helpful for searches like this - they aggregate the top cycling websites into one. click the shortened link above, i've searched for Road or MTB shoes, and sorted by price lowest first - just need to select your size on the left to find everything available for you!

they're not comfy if they don't fit

Have a look on CRC - they have a sale on atm. I needed some new shoes so I just ordered myself a pair......or actually two pairs because I ordered one, but then wanted a different pair, but it was too late to cancel the first, so they're both coming. I'll just keep whichever I like best (assuming they fit), and send the other back.

I got 55% off one, and 60% off the other.

Another plus one here for the RT82s.
  • durhamwasp, make sure you try them on. I'm normally 7 and a half to 8 and I have Size 43.
  • Durhamwasp if you find a pair of RT82s would you mind posting a link on here, most places are sold out or only have 36/37 and I need a 44. Guess given it’s old stock it might be tricky! Think they have been replaced by the RT5 but I’m not convinced on the looks front

Good point. Always go one or possibly two sizes up with Shimano.

  • Specialized Sport RBX Road Shoe - understated styling, good quality, stiffer than MTB shoes and if you get on with the Body Geometry fit they are very comfortable indeed.
