Methinks this looks like the dog's danglies:

i remember having farnell supplies in the lab in the '80s, they were well made, being able to set current limit is certainly handy if you want it for testing - helps avoid stuff melting/burning/exploding

though this is new and cheaper (though only 5 amps)...

there're also some much cheaper switchmode units that have the same styling, personally i'd stick with linear for something that will be subject to abuse

Bust 900 notes out of black ops fund for balance of S5?

Waddya say? Only live once and all that.
Don't know what your black ops fund is, but go for it. What's the worst that can happen?

Agree - it is there for emergencies and this is an emergency.

Just have to restock it asap.

Okay. Good spot. 5amps is probably plenty. Comes with cables too. Though i'd probably make a couple up with the mini crocodile clips, then I have 'hands free' function. What do you call the cables that have a loop end and the loop is sprung?
Forgive my ignorance but what is the difference between linear and non linear?

linear - heavy transformer that turns mains ac into lower voltage, gets rectified and smoothed, followed by the electronics to regulate voltage/current - not as efficient, but simpler and usually more tolerant of abuse, easier to repair even without a circuit diagram

switched - rectifies/smooths main voltage then converts to high frequency allowing use of a smaller/lighter transformer, rectify/smooth, the high frequency allows smaller capacitors, more electronics to control everything - these are far more efficient, lighter and cheaper, hence most power supplies are switchmode these days, reliable in intended application, if they fail the additional complexity can make repair more difficult (and dangerous working on the live side)

    this sort of thing? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Spring-Loade ... 0563183926

Yes, that's the sort of thing.

Thanks SG. Pineapple tree seeds in the post.

Noooo, get a 2nd hand Spesh on fleabay. Keep the change to buy Edwyn's deluxe long lasting incinerator torch for maintenance of neighbour submission.

No. The Spesh will be as bland as the Trek I reckon.

    No. Just ask Chris Bass.

    That's you told.
