Replacing a cassette

Hi,

I've got:

Ultegra Double 6800 11 Spd Chainset 172.5 34/50

Shimano HG701 (Ultegra) Chain - 11 Speed

11 Spd Ultegra 6800 Cassette 11-28

If I were to change the cassette to 11-32, would I also need to remove the chainset and the chain? Looking at the descriptions of the parts above stating "11 Spd", I suspect the answer will be yes...

Thanks

You might need a longer chain. That's all.

As cougie said. Maybe even just one more link so just throw in a KMC quick link. Job jobbed for £2.50.

Wouldn't adding a quick link just make it the same length?

Will it not need at least a medium cage rear mech.

Depends on where the chain is cut at the moment.

It replaces an outer link. So both ends have to be inner links.

Before you go breaking the chain, try it with the bigger cassette. Manufacturers will always underestimate the capacity of the rear derailleur to safeguard them from claims. The new Ultegra will take a 40 tooth cassette (?) despite Shimano's limit of 32 teeth. You may have to play about with the B screw a bit.

Shimano specs the GS Ultegra rear mech for up to 34 teeth...

If you’re not on the limit as far as angle of dangle is concerned, with the 11-28 cassette, and you’re rear mech cage is long enough, regarding max difference / capacity constraints, then, no you won’t need to remove the Chainset, or adjust the chain length, just put the new cassette on, and make sure you’ve still got enough ‘dangle’ left in the rear mech, on big ring biggest sprocket. If it’s maxing out, you may have to lengthen the chain by a link or two.

My R8050 is 32 by the received documents.

    I've gone from 11/32 to 11/28....no issues

The OP wants to go up in teeth not down.
