Hub 10 or 11 speed

I am changing my groupset and the question came up is your wheel hub 11 speed compatible

How do I know? Will it say 11 speed on it or is there something I need to check

    i know but looking at it. some 11 speed hubs say 11 speed on them but not all.

    or just try an 11 speed casette on it

    Take the 10sp cassette off and see if it has a washer/spacer behind it? If it does there should be space and if it doesn't then there certainly won't be.

    You could even look up the spec of the wheels or original complete bike.

    yeah, because its really tricky to fit a cassette.

    Never said it was difficult, I said it seems unnecessary just to establish if it’s compatible or not

    well its probably a quicker option than what you've done so far, so in hindsight it would have saved you a load of time.

    if you ask someone I'm sure they will help you swwp them over.

    Not at home so was looking for options as I asked the missus to have a look

    This is a poor test to determine this because a shimano 10 speed cassette (except Tiagra 10spd) will have a 1mm spacer behind it on a 10 speed freehub. A SRAM 10 speed cassette won't have a spacer on a 10 speed freehub however.

    If it's an 11 speed freehub it will have a 1.85mm spacer and a 1mm spacer with a 10 speed shimano cassette.

    Campag has been 11speed compatible for years now so should be fine.


    You can always measure it - 34.95 for 10spd, 36.75 for 11 speed
