Those random bits in puncture repair kits

Right, what are they for?
Tiny rubber tube.
~1.5 by 8 cm strip of rubber, one side peel back paper to reveal a slightly sticky side.
Anything else that randomly appears that I've not thought of?

I don't think I've seen a tiny rubber tube in a puncture repair kit.
Is the rubber strip you are talking about quite thick? If so, probably a tyre boot.

Rubber strip was probably less thick than the thickest part of a puncture patch but didn't seem very stretchy. I did indeed use it as a tyre boot but added another patch on top of it to be sure..

You learn something new every day. Been a while since I had a bike with Woods valves on it. Me too; I knew straight away what it was. In all my time of using them I can't say I ever needed to replace the rubber tube on a Dunlop valve though.
I always thought they were quite elegant, simple but effective things.0
