Our snow came and went last night, thankfully we had enough time for a snowball fight

Today is WFH, which means I may get time to clean my race bike later! Or more likely walk the dog whilst the way talks about every detail of her few hours 'work'

    Morning!

Not much snow, had to brush some hail off the car but that's it.
Nice dry ride into the office, didn't seem that cold either.

Queue for the shower again this morning, suppose it's good that there's more people riding.

    Morning folks,
No snow down here in the tropics. Was talking to big spending Aussie customer and he was saying it 38' today going up to 42' tomorrow. I hope Spinner doesn't have those temperatures for humping furniture, mind you they are probably a thousand miles away or something.
Short day for me as I have to take the female child up to Great Ormond Street for a check up. Doubt they'll say anything new or anything will change though.
Bradford LD? Is it really worth it?

    Morning fellow earthlings,
Very light dusting of sneeeeer this morning enough to confuse the dog and make the deer more irritable than normal.
Work is amusing new manager appeared spoke to someone for a few minutes then vanished in a panic when he was told a brand new mac book pro had gone walkies (not me). Im doing the bare minimum last days next Friday so im using that as an excuse not to take on work.

    Later turbo an pub

Just applying for a St John first aid course so I can teach first aid to Bambina' scout group.

Yes, the lady at St John did have a giggle when we were talking about backgrounds.

    "So, what's your background?"
"Army trauma specialist, civvie ambulance front line medic, 20 years as a dive medic"
    "Hmmmm, righteo then....."

I remained silent on that matter. I was slightly scared of her.

I like that word, was wondering how to describe mine.

Chilly ride in with a bit of a headwind, but dumping the bike in the basement to retrieve tomorrow evening as it's cider night tonight with some old Uni mates. Hopefully the cider will keep me warm as I haven't got a coat :)

Now stuffing face - this morning was the third lot of pedalling in just over 24 hours and the metabolic furnace has been turned up a few notches.

Currently got about 11" of snow sitting at the moment, more forecast overnight. In a weird turn of events my boss up in Perth called this morning to say he'd rather we didn't try to get to the office today because of the snow, he was weirdly nice on the phone

Went outside last night and it was silent aside from the odd branch falling off the trees, the driveway was blocked and this one fell on my garage this morning. Finally got it off and my saw died during the last cut so it's not all neatly stacked in the woodstore yet...

No wandering souls from the M74 log jam tapping on your window for a hot cuppa?
    Your garage was lucky.

Did you get thunder and lightening last night? Christ, it woke me up it was so loud.

Disappointingly dry and sunny today in East Anglia. Sister tells me they had thunderstorm and blizzard in W Yorkshire, with a sprinkling of motorised morons.

Hoping for snow; just taken delivery of a load of very good logs and the logburner is suddenly like a small nuclear reactor.

Makes a hell of a difference. Of course, this is very bad news for you as you will be less inclined to extract yourself from the vicinity of it so that you can shed a few of those excess pounds

Nope, I did think about walking down to have a look but it's a mile or two and I wanted to go to bed. Felt very sorry for them, can't be pleasant, the mountain rescue were out trying to help people though. I saw the thunder-snow at about 9ish, I kept seeing flashes out of the corner of my eye for about half an hour before it came over, hoping the OH's gopro got some shots of it. Another amber warning for tonight, the novelty is starting to wear off and I want my new work laptop from Perth now

I agree, I have finally decided to start burning all the hardwoods I had stored instead of the 'softwoods of questionable origin' that I have been running on since we moved in. Also signed up to the Dumfries wood fuel collective and have had some interesting composite things to burn from them

Clear blue skies here, had a nice meander back to Waterloo with the female child. Stopped for a coffee on the way at a nice little Italian place.
All good as far as hospital were concerned. They’ve signed her off as there’s nothing more they can do but sending a letter for referral to get a bit more help locally and gave a few more pointers on things to try. So all good in that respect.

That is what reminded me of the snowdick story actually, unfortunately there are only three houses up here and car-based obscenities would certainly cause some discussion...

Very true. Half a tin of caramelised cranberry cookies last night while being pleasantly irradiated and watching Emelia Fox and chums doing implausible forensic work.

I now realise just how bad the 'special offer' bagged Aldi logs actually were. Definitely damp and probably softwood. I'd have taken them back if the disinterested girl on the checkout hadn't put them through as mashed potato, and the manager already given us a free bottle of wine when we complained that their offer price was no different from the individual bag price.

    Hollow victory...

Is that the sole fuel you run yours on? I'm always deeply suspicious of supermarket deals but I found the Home Bargains actually had the best price of the Verdo compressed composite logs even compared to some of the professional suppliers. Unfortunately Verdo pulled out of the UK and someone has bought their Grangemouth plant so they aren't in at the moment. Have you tried the BSW 'Hotties'? Similar sort of thing, quite impressed so far

I'm quite happy just burning softwoods. It's predominantly Larch and purchased from a wood supplier. I stack it way in advance and it burns pretty hot.
It's handy having some hard woods to keep the fire in for a couple of hours. If only I could get Ash in large quantities.

Have an unlimited supply of pallet board so until I was given a couple of trees last year I used to burn that all the time - burns really quickly but burns really hot.

Damn ugly to look at but store it away and only bring in what you need at that time.

We have oil fired but like burning things with fire. It's also another opportunity for TDV to turn me down when I try to get, ahem, romantic. It's what keeps our marriage the utter joy it is.

We now burn tree in the metal fire box.
