Did the Tour de Lauder this year, albeit shorter route. Loved it, will sign up again this year. I think it sells out in a couple of weeks once booking opens in jan
  • So far starting in April 14th with Evans ride it Windsor not sure if doing 54 or 75
    https://www.evanscycles.com/evans-cycle ... 8-EV319947
Then ride it reading 29 April again 60 or 90 miles
    https://www.evanscycles.com/evans-cycle ... 8-EV319950
22nd July Nottingham wheeler 75 miles
    https://www.ukcyclingevents.co.uk/event ... -sportive/
11 August steeple chase 96 miles
    https://www.ukcyclingevents.co.uk/event ... -sportive/
Plus entered lottery for ride London 100 plus will prob do another 2-3 over the year .
  • Isle of Wight Randonne, Ride London, and Velo Birmingham for me, all the other Sportives in my locale tend to use roads / routes I ride anyway, so I wouldn’t want to pay anything to do a ride I was already doing.

The Eden Valley ride is a nice early season event. Excellent food stop in Appleby. Some really pleasant roads although the ones in the last 20 miles or so can be a bit rough and muddy.

Have a look at the Forest of Bowland sportive in April. Really lovely route.

  • Will definitely do Gridiron100 Randonee in New Forest again next year, was a really good event

Will probably do Castle ride 100 mile in Kent in the spring again also

I like the look of the Isle of Wight Randonee also, trying to convince a couple of mates to join up

I've deferred the 3 pistes from last year, when my dodgy hip was properly giving me grief - fixed in August (I Am Titanium!), back to full commuting schedule now, but well aware that I'll need to be a lot fitter by May to get up the Lecht - I still find it hard to believe it's "only" 20%
I've done it 3 times before, best time about 7½ hours, I know I can do it faster than that....
  • Thanks for sharing - interesting to see what others are entering, and some events I didn't know about.

3 pistes sounds and looks interesting, an nearby for me, however website is down so will keep an eye on it..

    Cheers

Tour of Flanders - doing the 130km option

Will probably do Tour of Cambridgeshire and see how close I can get to the qualifying times for the World Gran Fondo thingy

Have put my name down in the ballot for a place in Ride London, won’t be too fussed if I miss out

Might find something else in the summer months if Ride London doesn’t happen
  • Struggle Dales
    Dragon ride
    ToC
    Maratona
    L'Etape
  • Entered the RL 2018 ballot, that’s it so far. Time to get the skiing over with first then concentrate on the bike.

Hell of the north, Shropshire highland challenge and autumn epic are definates.
  • I’ve only got the Tour du Mont Blanc booked so far. I’ll probably try fit a few local ones in for training.
  • Hopefully some more gravel bike events, including "This is not a Tour" and the Yorkshire True Grit. The main box ticker this coming year is to do the Caledonian Way from Campbeltown to Inverness

if your on a solo, that is not a "i m only doing...." :D

For me its L'Ariégeoise and La Velotoise, i did win a place in next years Maratona but it clashes, so might have to give it away or roll it over till 2019.
  • Only this one, as it's almost in my backyard: https://www.alpineclassic.com.au/routes/250km-ace/

I can't recall meeting any UK riders on this over the years, but I've met Japanese, French, and German cyclists doing it.
  • Only one at the minute and thats the White Rose Classic, 114 miles and 10,000 ft of climbing.. I am now wondering why I did!

I live in Norfolk, England where if you can climb 4,000 feet in 100 miles you've found every hill possible.
I did however do the Durham Dynamo, Dragon Ride and Bike Bath last year all of which had at least 7,000 ft of climbs, so this one will kill me and put me off hills for ever!

One slight problem is that I'm 6ft6 and 100kg so gravity and physics punish me on hills and I'm rubbish at climbing, so I stick it on the granny ring and watch all the women, then children, then grannies on their shoppers come past me as plod away on my multi thousand pound ornament!!

Rawlinson Bracket is the only one I've signed up for. Local but good charity so I like to support it.

Looking for a longer 2 or 3 day event to do but struggling for inspiration.
Done tour of Wessex and Dragon Tour in the last couple of years.

Have you thought about dulex trade London 2 days ?
  • Just the one so far, The Giant Kendal Castle Sportive
Excellent route. Don't underestimate the difficulty of the climb away from Ullswater. Just because its not one of the famous lakes climbs, its as hard as any of the more famous ones. The last bit involves a loop east of Shap that is incessaent up & down. Nothing individually nasty, but it just sucks absolutely everything out of your legs.

Did that a couple of years back. Great route, well organised. The feed stops are tail-end loaded, which makes a lot of sense. The route will be better now that two bridges washed away by storm desmond have been repaired, meaning the A65 is avoided.

I've jut signed up for the Dragon Ride Gran Fondo in June (230km, the profile looks like a particularly nasty saw

    http://www.letapeuk.co.uk/wales/letape-wales/event-info/

I've talked about it in the past, but I didn't feel the need to do an organised event over the last couple of years, but I I didn't do much cycling last year, and want some motivation to push myself this year. The three year gap since I did RLS100 means my friends and relations are due a shakedown in the name of charity.

Also, as mentioned over on Bender's review thread, the Castelli top is magnifficient, and you can only get at registration on event day.

They've included the profiles of all the major hills on the route into the shirt design.

Forest of Bowland are my local hills. Best riding in the country imo - the Trough of Bowland and Nick O Pendle climbs are wonderful.

Paris-Roubaix and Tour of Cambridge for me. Entered the RideLondon ballot top, but not really fussed if I don't get in - I'll do the Dynamo instead

Not a sportive, but a cycling challenge nonetheless.

    http://saintsfoundation.co.uk/big-bike-challenge-2/

I’ve been asked to work as a ride leader for B.C. on this.
We’re riding from the Etihad Stadium in Manchester, to St.Mary’s Stadium in Southampton, over 2 days ( my group is at least) 170 odd miles on day 1, and 65 on day 2. We did the ride from the Bet 365 Stadium in Stoke last year, this is a bit further. At least it’s not Carlisle

I have a piece of paper with my plan for the year on it, but only have a couple booked so far (Evans Ride-it in Newbury and Reading, both the MTB courses). For the road I’m looking at things like the Magnificat in June, Evans Cycles Ride-it Newbury in September, Bike Oxford n August and one in Childrey in March.
Cube Reaction GTC Pro 29 for the lumpy stuff
Cannondale Synapse alloy with 'guards for the winter roads
Fuji Altamira 2.7 for the summer roads
Trek 830 Mountain Track frame turned into a gravel bike - for anywhere & everywhere
