I've just popped a spoke on my Dura Ace C24 rear wheel and am getting confused which particular model of wheel I have to sort out a replacement.

They are about 4 years old, 11 speed clinchers with an alloy braking track.

Thanks if anyone car identify these or let me know where I might find the part number on the wheel

    If you know how old they are, it should help with what series of Dura Ace C24 they are. Go to a Shimano spares web site for the build spec and spares such as;

    https://www.sjscycles.co.uk/spokes-shimano/

You could always Google for images of C24 wheels to match yours and get the model version from there. My C35 9000 are different in appearance to the previous model, so may be the same for your C24's?
I ride a bike. Doesn't make me green or a tree hugger. I drive a car too.

Thanks for the link, that does help. Annoying that some are just a couple of mm difference in length.

They do have black nipples rather than red. Do you know if that is just cosmetic or does it indicate a model difference?

The model of hub will tell you what the wheel is. It will be in small letters under the Dura Ace logo on the hub.

Will be either DA-7800 (doubtful as 10 speed), DA-7900 (10 speed as well), DA-9000 (11 speed the most likely candidate) or DA-9100 (unlikely as only released last year)

thanks for that, sorted. It was 9000
  • Not sure how reliable this information is, but if so, al you need is a Sapim CX ray straight pull of the correct length, assuming you can't find the original replacement

However, that still leaves you with the task of finding a nipple. Shimano nipples are slightly bigger than normal, at 4 mm at the square section (normal is around 3.25 mm)

Original replacements do seem a bit like hens teeth. I found the link to a set of spokes at SJS but was hoping to avoid 75GPB for spokes.

The original nipple seems of be attached to the remains of the spoke at the rim. Are they reusable at all?

Yes, you can reuse the nipple... it's not ideal, but...

I've had replacement Dura Ace 7900 spokes from George Halls before . They do seem to list 9000 as well.

Almost but I need left side and that seem to have drive side only. Thanks though

Found the Sapim equivalent in Germany https://r2-bike.com/SAPIM-Spoke-CX-Ray- ... ack-302-mm

Have a look if Just Riding Along have them, easier than shipping from Germany

Da 9000 spokes are available from any shop with a madison account. Have you tried an lbs. Your spoke has failed due to fatigue most likely so all the others are fatigued too and replacing one spoke will mean others will fail reasonably soon. Replace all the spokes or buy new wheels. Replace all the nipples please. Do the job right or not at all.

The da 9000 spoke is not a cx ray. It is a cx sprint.

  • If you had checked the part number for the spoke you are looking for, and carried on searching down the pages you would have found this

    https://www.sjscycles.co.uk/spokes/shimano-duraace-wh7850c24cl-rear-right-spoke-302mm-y012ad027/

I would check your spoke length first though if you can.
    Hope this helps.

I found the sjs link but they only have drive side spokes, I need left side. Thanks anyway though.

All the LBS are shut till tomorrow and the Madison website is undergoing remodelling.

I don't disagree that the best option would be to replace all the spokes and nipples as there is a good chance the others are fatigued. However not being a professional wheel builder there is a strong temptation to take a short cut, spend a very few pounds and take a chance on nothing else breaking for a year.

Got some cheap winter wheels arriving which means I can ride while i sort things out.

Who knows, once it is time for new nice wheels and having learnt a little about spare parts now I might end up contributing to the factory v handbuilt threads :-)

I think you are right, thanks for spotting that. I'd discounted that page because it prominently says right side spoke

Either a bad page layout or I have destroyed too many brain cells with the festive alcohol intake.
