I have a Giant Defy advanced, only a few weeks old. Washing the bike with wheels off i have noticed refitting the rear wheel is a real pain. It seems very tight between the small cog and derailleur as i put the wheel in.

Not sure it will make any difference but it is thru axle.

  • Are you using a workstand? If not try using one. It could be that you are just putting it back in at a bit of an angle.

You have a new bike and it sounds like it fit perfectly before you took it off to clean. I would say eliminate the more obvious culprits first before jumping to conclusions.
  • If you're not doing so already, it is a bit easier if your in the smallest rear cog, and remove the qr spanner.

The bike has 12mm through axles, not QR's. Try pushing the RD cage forwards to give more clearance between the top guide pulley and the 11T cog.
  • Thanks for the replies.

Yes wheel was fine before and once fitted. Nothing appears bent.

Nah, surely nobody would make such a schoolboy error?
