CX in South Wales

Hi I am thinking of doing some CX this autumn depending upon the closeness of events/races etc...

Anyone know where I can look these up and/or when the races are likely to start in this area? Have looked on BC website without much success.

    Only one event registered so far ( https://www.britishcycling.org.uk/event ... 17-Round-1 ), but there is a full season planned across south/mid Wales from Sept-Dec. Dates will be up on BC and probably on http://www.cyclocrosswales.co.uk too when registered. Also worth joining the Welsh Cyclocross FB group.

    Round 1 10th September RWAS, John Lloyd Racing
    Round 2 17th Llanishen, JIF
    Round 3 24th Foxley, Climb on bikes
    Round 4 1st October, Pembrey A Cycling
    Round 5 7th October, Carmarthen Towy Riders (might be 8th I think)
    Round 6 15th October Newtown Hafren CC
    Round 7 22nd October Aberystwyth Ystwyth CC
    Round 8 28th October Abergavenny (Crosstober) this date is Saturday as Nat Champs on the Sunday
    Round 9 5th November, Gower Riders TBC but LIKELY to be Singleton Park Swansea
    Round 10 19th November Parc Bryn Bach
    Round 11 26th November Pembrey Bynea CC
    Round 12 10th December Crickhowell, Filthy Cycling

    Oh, and:

    1. Never done this one, it's new
    2. Good place to start. Rarely wet, basically a grass crit. Very fast circuit.
    3. Not done this. Mate has, he cites it as his favourite.
    4. But that one is my favourite, not quite as CX'y. More adventure cross. Long circuit.
    5. Last year first dry one ever. Most of the time it's the muddiest thing on earth. Great fun.
    6. Pass, haven't done
    7. Ditto
    8. Nat Champ course. Lots of climbing. Lots of varied terrain. Good fun.
    9. Old course was fab. Mudfest or dry. New one apparently an even better place to have it.
    10. SNOWED last year. It was epic. Mix between CX and a hardcore MTB event
    11. My other favourite. Up and down, round, up and down. Always dry even when wet.

    RWAS depends on where it's held. On the showground field = proper CX circuit. In the woods above the top car park = MTB course. Hafren - good CX circuit with an epic hike/step section. Gower at Singleton park was the best circuit of the series. Classic CX terrain and worthy of a national champs or even a world cup round.

    I've done Gower for 2 years now. Was it Singleton before that? Or, I think, the Singleton was Welsh Champs and separate from the 'mortal' version?

    As far as I'm aware, Singleton was used for the first time last year, for the Welsh champs. Everything that a CX course should be, IMO...

    Crosstober in Abergavenny is going to be a UCI Cat 1 race and should hopefully attract an international field. Apart from the World Cup round in MK the other year it is potentially the biggest CX race hosted in the UK for a long time. Welsh League on the Saturday will probably use much of the same course. It's hit and miss in October, could still be dry and fast whereas later in the winter it's a mud bath where the off-camber sections become a real test.

    Is Carmarthen on the Saturday and under lights at night as it was a couple of years ago? It would explain the date.

    I think the Saturday date is to avoid a clash with R1 of the national Trophy at Derby the next day (just in case anyone wants to travel from Carmarthen to Derby and race again the next day ;) ) - alternatively, it might be a venue availability issue, not sure. Lots of car boots, expos, etc, going on at the showground. The Carmarthen round used to run under floodlights in the evening at Carmarthen park, but hasn't run there for a few years now.
