The Classic

Forget Angliru, Alpe d'Huez, and Passo Giau - today the valiant competitors must conquer the infamous Box Hill

Brotheton on Bbc1 currently with Cav
    Millar on moto.
    Edit: and Rochelle Gilmore
Jill Douglas with Cav And Boardman on red button (not sure what is going on with red button, seems to be showing prerecorded stuff ATM)

Indeed, enjoying Millar on the motorbike.

Not heard the chap on freeview earlier, didn't get to hear him for long enough, but seemed ok - was on with Brian Smith.

    The Tour is back. Excellent!

    Let's celebrate.

Been out for lunch and a small libation, so catching up a few minutes behind.

Team Sky seem to have the hammer firmly down.

I reckon David Millar used some of his Castelli/Bugati money to get insider Sky information. That was very impressive prognostication.

Matteo Trentin is the QS. And Darryl Impey of Orica has joined them.

This is barely a race, let alone a classic.

Sitting on the sofa after short hilly ride, downpour (that I would have missed if I hadn't attempt 25% finale in last mile which broke chain), Strava sync failure, and Belgian recovery beers.

    At least Boardman acknowledged this.

Surprised Sky were so keen to get the break back with 80k to go.

Interesting here the difference between the Olympic ride in and this. Everyone pretty much gave up with only a slightly bigger gap, with Gb (essentially sky) trying to catch vino and Canc (edit: group)

Cannot remember the weather then - but the tailwind means they are doing 55-65km/h; pretty negates the benefits of the peletons numbers

Disagree, it's given some of the best one day racing in the last few years and today can still go either way. The route always looks like a dead cert for a bunch gallop but I think we're about 50-50 on breakaway to sprint wins.

The Millar moto camera really gives you an idea of the speed they're going.

Yeah agree; now they are in the houses the tailwind stops being so effective - and if the other teams get to the front; gonna be close. I reckon catch 4-5km to go

Really not a fan of Millar being taken up and down the peloton on the moto.

Only Katusha really seem worried. Sunweb come and help out now and then, it's either some good poker by other teams or they aren't convinced about their sprinters' chances.

I'm not sure he's a fan, he told the pilot to get a move on when they were catching him on one occasion.

The most disappointing aspect for me are the crowds, or rather lack of them.
Not that the race was ever fashionable among the Surrey set, but it's as if the novelty has worn off.
Looking at the stage of Poland, today and there significantly more spectators there, then here.
    I find that surprising.

Or maybe I am harshly judging the S of E against Yorkshire?

Brinkmanship over - other teams are moving to front. Too little too late?

Kristoff wins what was a really crap sprint.

All that Katusha work paid off. Serious amount of team work there to pull back. Nice one Kristoff

Kristoff had to win that. Not exactly an A list of sprinters though, Sep in 4th! Very small peloton.

Not a lot to get excited about there.
