Thinking of a trip to the Alps next year, staying in the Maurienne Valley.
Has anyone stayed in this area and can recommend either accommodation or bike hire?

8 of us stayed here last year and we're going back this year. About 10 minutes down into St Jean de Maurienne (20 minutes on the way back up) and at the foot of the Croix de Fer. Ibis budget near St Jean is a good choice, it has a decent enough breakfast, is opposite a supermarket, there's a bar 2 minutes walk away, and a fast food truck parks in the car park selling frites and cold beer
It's also got air conditioning in the bedrooms which lots of places don't seem to have, especially at the cheaper end. And it's cheap and got a big bike shed.
There's a bike hire place in St Michel du Maurienne, at the foot of the Telegraphe. Never used it but will be in September, and staying in the Ibis.
If you decide to stay in the Hotel Bernard in St Jean cos it's cheap, there's a reason it's cheap. Because it's s***e.0 -

Updating this with a bit of info for those interested....
Just back from Maurienne Valley, and stayed in the Ibis as above, which was great again.
We used the bike hire place in St Michel de Maurienne, bikes were in very good condition, and worked very well. I took my own pedals, the Look-type ones fitted were rubbish. Lugano tyres on both bikes, which were OK, not my preferred choice.
Lots of free, all day parking directly outside the shop.

considering a trip to the valley late June, in the camper van, most likely staying at the Camping de cols campsite.
