Commute/xc tyres??

Hey guys, I'm looking for people's opinions on a set of tyres I can commute on during the week and also take the bike out for an xc blast at weekends (bridle ways etc)

Dont want to spend more then £15 a tyre really and for a 26er. Thanks for reading.

    Have a look at the Schwalbe Smart Sam, the centre kobbles create a near continuous bead making it fast rolling on road, the other one to look at is the Kenda Small Block8 which is fine off road unless the mud gets too deep for the knobbles.

    Your not going to get a great tyre on that budget though.
    Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.

    I know my budget isn't great, I just want a more commuter friendly tyre for this bike.

    These roll great on the road and are decent on light offroad, basically the mirror image of Smart Sams (whose strength is more offroad).

    For my commute i use 26inch Michelin Country Rock, its on roads mainly but also covers 3 to 6km of gravel/ hard pack tracks. Recently I broke a spoke in the front wheel, I put on my other spare wheel that had a hybrid small block tread Kenda tyre on, two days later I swapped the michelin tyre on, still havent fixed the spoke yet tho! The commute with the kenda was made noisy and not nice to ride. Id been spoilt by the country rock's quiet ride and it took the brief wheel swap to make me realise how good the michelins are, from CRC theyre less than £12 each.
    Caveat - I buy and ride cheap, however, I reserve the right to advise on expensive kit that I have never actually used and possibly never will

    It's a bit late for the OP, but for anyone else in the same situation another option could be going tubeless.

    The Evo snakeskin version of Schwalbe tyres are tubeless ready and, if you believe the marketing, should be more puncture resistant. Plus the sealant fixing most punctures you do get.

    It would cost more (£12 vs £33 + tubeless conversion), but should be more puncture resistant (always a good thing when commuting) and quite likely lighter with less rolling resistance. Also good for commuting.
