This race is turning into a bit of a crash fest.
Generally, the Giro riders are still carrying decent form, while the potential TDF riders are mostly off the pace.
Obviously, there a few exceptions."Science is a tool for cheaters". An anonymous French PE teacher.0 -

Twice I noticed riders sliding out after overcooking corners - but with no commentary, it is so difficult to tell which riders. I haven't seen too many reports of injuries. But with sharp fast corners on the pave of ancient Bern you were always gonna have people pushing a bit too hard
Today is a Mountain Stage
11 km with 800ish metres of climbing to finish off a 150km stage - the stage is flat/rolly till 100 km, then an easier mountain, followed by a not nice MTF. The two mountains are not HC - maybe a cat 2 followed by a 1
Swiss cameras start rolling at 1500hours Local - about half an hour before the riders are expected to reach Col de Mosses - the first of the day's two climbs0 -
Actually last years TdF went over Col de Mosses - looks like same route from very poor map views. It was Cat 3 - but was riden before Forclaz and the brutal Finhaut0

Just watched the end of yesterday's stage in the belief it was today's. I was very confused by Imatfaal's stage profile.0

Like seeing riders getting their first big win - I can only try to imagine the feeling.0

More importantly, Larry Warbasse's only ever pro win.
Showed such emotion during his interview.
Well worth a double chapeau.
Mostly the Giro boys coming out well on top, along with Simon "Enigma" Spilak, Frank and LRP's main mountain domestique.
Pretty good effort from Lopez, after such a long layoff.
Ion Izaguirre the biggest GC flop. Tom D obviously a bit off, after all the post Giro hullabaloo."Science is a tool for cheaters". An anonymous French PE teacher.0 -
That was a really sweet interview. Seems like a lovely fellow! Well done to himGiant Trance X 2010

Love to see the breakaway keep the win and foil the chasing pack - even more so when you see the joy on the face of the new winner.

Today - Stage 5
Rolly/Hilly and a very long day in the saddle: Bex – Cevio 222km
As far as I can tell the TV coverage may miss the bulk of the long and very nasty Simplon pass (20km at +6%) coverage again seems to start at 1500 local and the predictions of cresting the pass are also around 1500lt0 -

Miguel Angel Lopez to hospital after crash0 -
Descent of the Druongo looked pretty hairy - just glad the rainburst happened as the riders were close to reaching the bottom0

Lopez back in hospital after yet another crash.
A filler stage.

Yeah - bit of a waste of one of the most beautiful and taxing climbs around0 -
Lovely sprint by Sagan - superb timing on a strong tail wind sprint and, as above, a great celebration. He is fun to watch and I am looking forward to him going proper head to head with Gaviria. But apart from that and a slightly scary descent in the rain it was a dull dull day made worse by the fact that Simplonpass (which even if not contested is awesomely beautiful) did not get any TV coverage
Stage 6 looks much more exciting ...
Two HC climbs both peaking at over 2000m. And it is not quite a MTF - even if it looks like it from the profile - there is 9km downhill after the top of La Punt Chamues0 -
as I keep missing this how is the GC battle going ?0

Not exactly rivetting - but with two moutain stages today and tomorrow, a circuit stage, then ITT it should hot up

Dumoulin abandons with fatigue.
TV coverage starts as they hit the Albula. Final descent has a couple of tight hairpins, but is generally fast and flowing. Probably not long/technical enough for any significant time gaps, so these will have to come on the climb. But with a brutal finish tomorrow and an ITT after, I'm not expecting too much animosity. I'll still watch it for the scenery though.0 -
from TdS tickerMaximum speed of 119 km/h Wednesday, Philippe Gilbert (BEL/QST) reached a maximum speed of 119 kms per hour in the downhill of the Simplon-Pass. Allowed are on Swiss State roads 80 km/h, but as there was no police, there was also NO fine for Gilbert.
That's mental0
