Pancake flat sprint stage. Last chance for the fast men.

On twitter said that if the Stelvio stage is the Queen stage then this is the Prince Edward stage

Today's PTP sees a huge swing towards Gaviria (a massive turnaround after no-one picked him on the first stage he won)

Gaviria 58.5%
Greipel 17%
Ewan 14.5%
Bennett 7.5%
Battaglin 2.5%

So, SDB suggests to Ashley that it wasn't the crash with the moto that did for Geraint, but the crash earlier in the stage.
Perhaps he can rest up and taper back to the shape he was in coming here and get a good top 10 result at the Tour, while still towing Froome around the French mountains.

    Anyhow, pan flat you say?

So one of my first thoughts after getting to the station this morning to discover there were no trains running was "great, I'll work from home and have the giro on"! And this is the stage I get...

Flat stage + bit of wind + animosity between teams = chance of some mischief...

I feel your pain, the first weekend of the Giro was a bank holiday weekend here, and we get two flat stages and a rest day!

Folks will always associate Jesper Skibby with that iconic photo on the Koppenberg in '87, but he was also the winner the last time the Giro finished up in Tortona.

Oh - that's not the iconic photo btw, in case you were wondering.

There's a part of me that mischievously wants Geraint to comprehensively fail at the Tour or Vuelta (if that's what he goes on to do now), just so that he goes back to the cobbled classics from next year.

Having followed PTP for many years, this follows a familiar selection pattern of picking riders based on yesterday's result.

However it is Greipel's last day in the race today so he is going to make sure he wins...

Heaven forbid, not the article, but the trolling in the comment's section.

    Not bad...

As the B samples from Pirazzi and Ruffoni come back positive, Bardiani should be kicked off the Giro. Maybe they should tell Albanese

    Such a slow race day.
Vegni thanks Geraint and SDB for honouring the race.

From the climb yesterday, to the hills around Bergamo. 500 pan flat kms with Oropa at between.
So, basically the RCS threw in a Tour of Qatar into the middle of their 100th Giro.

Gaviria comes from a long behind after being boxed in to take the stage!

Caleb's leadout lost him again and QS played a nice blocking move. He seems too small to deal with the rough and tumble at the front of a sprint.

Nice for Gaviria... four wins now in his first GT!

No, wasn't Ewan's foot that was off the pedal, was the guy he rode into.

Gaviria comes from behind after being blocked in by griepel, Ewan goes bars to bars with the last quickstep rider to try and push him closer to the barrier where gaviria comes round and takes the sprint from bennet

Gaviria came like a rocket from miles back.
Meanwhile Ewan is riding the dodgems again.
Still at least this time he got Richeze to pop his foot out, rather than his own.

Sam Bennett string together some tidy results without actually winning.
But no one is, against Gaviria, .

Gaviria is on fire but the Quick Step leadout men are clearly the best in the race.

6 of one, half a dozen of the other wasn't it? He wanted to go where Gaviria was heading, Richeze held his line. You could argue that Richeze was a bit over enthusiastic in holding his line, but he'd probably argue he had to put the shoulder in to maintain his balance.

I'd relegate Ewan for being such a PTP let down...

Thought Richeze was a bit cheeky but well within his rights to hold his line. Ewan wasn't in the right place to to take the win to begin with.
