    Maybe so, but the same cover which protects the rotor would also protect the rider by definition.

    Until they are hit by the couple of hundred kilos of metal. I'm pretty sure, having been one, that the last thing motorcross riders are worried about is getting cut by a rotor.
    Perhaps if roadies wore heavy boots and body armour they wouldn't be so scared of disc brakes.

    Agreed. Having also been one, it was never a concern for me either - that came pretty low down on the list of potential motocross injuries. I simply meant it would protect them from getting injured by a potentially hot or spinning disc rotor, which seems to be the main concern for roadies.
