Having been a late discoverer(?) of rock music, I have very little to add to this thread, but I will look forward to watching others' selections.

I have to admit I thought Mr Goo's offering would be a probable cure insomnia, but I quite like Eddie's distinct voice and it kept me interested. I once saw The Alarm, Big Country, Glen Matlock and a few others do the same song, in the much less glamorous setting of Pontins in Rhyl. The Pearl Jam one is marginally better..........



EDIT: I was there and obviously without the potato mobile camera footage it was a whole lot better. In fact what I remember of the gig, it was a good show. How I could still stand 15 or so pints in, I'll never know.

I like The Beatles and George Harrison as much as most I would think, and that video with Petty, Lynne and Prince in it is typical crap of when you sling a bunch of pros together. It has no soul whatsoever, the best that can be said is all the singing is in tune and that Prince did a reasonable job of w**king a solo over it (not taking away from him as a guitarist). If you weren't awestruck watching it and just heard it not knowing who it was, you'd say it was nothing special at best to completely boring. (Oh, listen to the awful processed over-gained sound of the lead guitar player before Prince, crap).

The Pearl Jam / Young one. Well, I've seen PJ a few times, but they could play that in their sleep, a school band could play it. Of course EV's voice sounds good, but the whole thing is boring. Again, if you weren't awestruck by seeing who was playing when watching it you'd think it was boring, repetitive and crap. There's nothing there whatsoever for those decent musicians to get their teeth into, listen to the drummer, he must be bored shitless.

The fact is, most live jam collaborations are complete rubbish and are just musicians going through the motions. These are the kind of songs most musicians can teach each other in five minutes, because everyone has already heard them so many times they know how they format and they are dead simple too, hence why they are usually to listen to.

probably not for everyone and not sure it can be classed as a live jam but well worth a listen if you like bass
