Speed / cadence Sensor

Hi. I'm relatively new to the road bike game and have purchased a used garmin 705HR. Unfortunately the speed / cadence sensor was not included. Can anyone advise on a reliable make and model?

    garmin ones are ok

    there's the older combined one that uses a magnet on crank and spoke, gsc-10, you can find them on ebay, may also be some leftover stock in shops etc.

    or the newer separate units that need no magnet...

    Last time I looked the 705 didn't support separate speed and cadence sensors so you need the older GSC10 combined one
    And the people bowed and prayed, to the neon god they made.

    I've got a 705 too, as said the newer Garmin sensors don't work. I use a Garmin gsc10 on one bike but I also found a Mio speed/cadence sensor discounted at a local Halfords and run that on another bike, actually prefer the cleaner looking design of that one over the Garmin version, it doesn't have the sticky out part that looks like an accident waiting to happen.

    I use GSC10s (also with a 705). I have had a few issues with them from time to time, but generally they work well in my experience. Do shop around for them, though - I've seen them go for silly money on eBay.

    Only used with the Bluetooth communication thus far (on bike on trainer) but will work with Garmin units too as they also do ANT+
    Good price and good value.

    Do you really need one?

    I just let the Garmin work out speed from the GPS. It's rubbish when climbing really slowly under heavy tree cover, but in those circumstances I don't need to be reminded just how slowly I'm going...

    And I have no interest in knowing how fast my feet are spinning, it's not useful information as far as I'm concerned.

    Got to say, my cadence sensor is one of most useful things I've put on my bike. Mainly because it showed me how often I was coasting on flat sections.
