Looking to upgrade my phone - what's the most popular phone for cyclists? Is a Iphone Plus too big for a jersey pocket?

  • The plus is too big for anything in my opinion... you may as well have a small tablet!!

I had a crashend of last year. My phone was in my back middle pocket. I landed on my back and cracked the screen. Luckily it still worked to call out on.It was my old phone so I don't care too much. If it were on the bars it would have been annihilated. Best to just buy a cheap old rubber keyed phone for emergency calls.

A cheap £10 phone from Vodafone. Makes/receives calls, great coverage, very light and battery life is measured in weeks. My smartphone is left at home.

I've had an iphone 6+ for 2 years, never had an issue with it in my jersey pocket.

Sony Xperia for me. I'd only consider a waterproof phone. You can use freezer bags too if you want.

Fearing the same, I always wrap my iphone in a few layers of bubble wrap and an elastic band around this. I still easily fits into my back pocket — and along with the leather case it's in — 'should' protect it in most normal offs.
  • Buy the phone you like for using it every day. If it fits in a pocket, bonus.

    ^^This one.
  • I now have an Iphone 6S which is fine, but I prefer my previous 5S, as a) it was a bit smaller and b) easier to use and hold when riding. 6+ or 7+ is too big for me.
  • Bear in mind that the S7 Edge is smaller than the iPhone 6+ but has the same size screen.

if you're going to spam the forum with marketing questions at least admit it and not pretend you're looking for genuine advise
  • I have a 6+ and I have a velopac case which fits the phone nicely and also fits jersey pocket.

For filming! Or for summoning the other half in case of puncture / bonking (running out of energy I mean, not the other kind....)
  • I just use my phone, that way I can take awesome pictures of my bike!
    Advocate of disc brakes.
