I got wiped out today by a pedestrian walking into my path. Considering I was going over 30mph at the time I think I got away pretty lightly with a fractured spine and a few grazes.

Unfortunately the bike has taken a bit of a knock and I am unsure of the frames condition although it looks pretty unscathed you just never know. My Fizik Antares R1 saddle is a write off so the impact to some part must have been heavy. To that end I would like to know of any carbon fibre repair specialists in the North Yorkshire area. I want to get the frame x-ray'd to know its condition. I will be pursuing the pedestrian for damages - or most likely his company as he was a delivery man at work - so the cost is not important. Either they get me a new bike or fix the current one.

    Is Rob Hayles near you with his carbon repairs? Not sure if anyone actually x rays them though.

    Thank you for the lead. I think he's not that close by but its a starting point. Think I'm going to be off the bike for a while so I can give him a bell and see what he can do unless anyone knows of someone closer.

    You sound like a positive guy with saying you got off lightly with a fractured spine! Get well soon.

    Are you sure you need to go to this hassle though? If you manage to claim through his insurance company then in my experience they're fairly sensible and would agree the bike would be a write off after a crash at that speed. At the worst a statement from a LBS might be needed to back that up. All manufacturers advise against using bars, frames, stems etc etc after an impact and X-raying isn't cost effective.

    I agree. I would prefer a whole new bike. I am just trying to cover all eventualities. I have cycling insurance and also have my British Cycling silver membership benefits for legal advice etc but nothing in this world is ever clear cut. Not sure I could find a replacement for the exact bike as it's discontinued. I just don't want to end up being short changed in any way. Could be a while before I push a pedal in anger anyway.

    Not that it's great being taken off by anyone but pedestrians are a nightmare as pretty unusual you'd get a penny out of them. Pretty "lucky" yours was on duty at the time.

    Anyway, good luck with the claim.

    Just an update on this.

    I took my bike in for a repair quote. There was a crack found of the chain stay the shop say is terminal and not guaranteed can be successfully repaired so I was written up a complete replacement price of the bike. Spoke to the insurance co. Velosure and they will pay me out £3000 for the bike and all the extras I need to replace. Decent result in the end. I am still waiting on the 3rd party claim for additional expenses, personal injury etc. Really impressed with the service of both the insurance co and most impressed by the solicitors. I would recommend them to anyone looking for bike cover.

    Anyway, I have a new bike to source. Happy shopping time !!!!!

    Thanks. Back is taking a while to heal. I did have a lot of pain and struggled to move on my own. Gets bad when your wife has to help you onto the toilet and into the shower etc. Past that now and have a fair amount of mobility. I still am getting pain in my lower back which I think could be a trapped nerve as its a stabbing burning sensation I get if I stand up for too long or do something quickly like turn or bend. Hopefully I should be well soon.

    glad you are recovering ..... it has to be asked though .. what is your replacement going to be ?

    I knew that would pique peoples interest.

    TBH I haven't decided yet. I only just got the settlement figure from the insurance so I was a bit conservative on what prices I was looking at. I certainly do not want to come down in quality so I need to find something I consider as being on par with the old bike at the minimum. The Bike in question was a Bianchi Sempre Pro which although not the top of the Bianchi range was still a pro level bike and as such handled superbly. I will miss it dearly.

    Bikes I have looked at are a Bianchi Oltre XR1, Scott Foil 20 and I was really looking at a BMC Teammachine slr01 which is the a very different bike from the other 2 but It just really caught my eye plus it weighs nothing and I like hills! I need something which will come with an Ultegra chainset so I can still use my Stages. I don't want to mess about buying more to get it back on etc.

    I also have to get a new helmet etc so I can't spend everything on just the bike, I need to speak to Specialized and get my crash replacement discount sorted and the rest will be whatever I can find. Ripped Gabba 2 and damaged shoes but they are not critical.

    I saw the Teammachine SLR01 in the bike shop when I went for my bike fit the other week, it's a beautiful thing to look at too

    I like the nude carbon over the red (BMC shouldn't paint their frames) but my wife doesn't like it. WTF does she know? :roll:

    Paint adds weight anyway!
    Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.

    Exactly. I read a while back about how the designers of the SLR01 were aggravated after creating a frame that weighs less than 750g they decided to put 200g of paint on it. Sounds like a petty thing but when you spent so long to create such a lightweight frame you would be pissed too.
