Rear Shocks

Currently running a RS Monarch that came on my nukeproof, running fox forks and the new transfer post, nothing wrong with the shock but I'm considering swapping it out for a fox to match the Kashima coating!
After opinions on the float x and the X2 rear shock as to what I should go for!!
Thanks in advance!

The X2 is OK but the Cane Creek DB Inline is much better for the Mega TR or for the Mega AM a Fox Van R with PUSH MX Tune is the nuts.
Buying a shock because you like the colour is daft. Kashima is absolutely pointless anyway, it reduces friction by less than just fitting decent quality seals and isn't too durable.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -

Must admit I have been looking at this!! Should have mentioned that it's for a 2016 Mega 275 if that's any help!!
Never had a coil shock though and don't know how much of a faf it would be setting it up?0 -
Simple to set up.
Have you got the Mega TR or AM?Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -
It looks like he's got a MY 2016 275 (650b and 160mm travel) which has replaced the AM. The TR has been dropped from the range.0

I'm loving it on my transition suppressor while the leverage curve of the 275 mega is very well suited to a coil shock0 -
The standard Cane Creek DB coil would be better. The Inline is designed for shorter travel trail bikes.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350

How do you work out what spring rate to buy?0

There's a calculator on the Mojo website. Or if you buy from TF Tuned they will tell you what spring to buy plus they'll set up the shock with a good base setting.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350

I suppose I'll look into the cane creek coils too then!! Wouldn't you suggest the db coil or the inline coil?
For people asking it's a Nukeproof Mega 275 (2016)0 -
For a 160mm travel bike I'd go for the DB coil, preferably without the climb switch.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350

Out of curiosity why without the climb switch? I'd have thought it wouldn't be a massive advantage having that?0 -

the DB coil doesnt offer anything the inline coil doesn't - in fact the inline is more sensitive due to the bladder rather than the IFP. only time you'd notice anything would be on huge long DHs which most people don't do. The travel of the bike is irrelavent.0 -

CC and TFtuned have spring calculators that are pretty good. TF will swap the spring if it doesn't work for you as well0 -

I was advised by TF Tuned that the DB coil is the better shock and that the only real purpose for the DB coil IL is to fit bikes without the space for a piggyback reservoir. They also advised me to avoid the climb switch if possible as it does have an effect on damping quality.
The IL is lighter so I would have ordered one until I phoned up to get some advice.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -
Fair enough then!! I will have a look into it abit more! Climb switch would be sometime I'd rather have though I thought nk just for some of the rides I do do have a lot of climbing involved! So I'd rather have the option there I think!0

Not ridden the latest Mega but my old 2014 model climbed really well without needing a climb switch.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350

I use the climb mode on my monarch that's already on there, so I wouldn't still like to be able to access it if and when needed! More personal preference than anything I think!0
